"Blue Sunday"
•The Ford Falcon Tribute Finale •
Sunday October 2nd from 7.30 am to 3.30 pm
Taking the lead from the team of dedicated enthusiasts at Ford that created the Falcon Sprints, a small group of fellow Ford Forum members and Falcon Enthusiasts have been planning for several months a Falcon Tribute Finale event for Sunday 2nd October.
We’ve seen a growing groundswell of interest from Falcon fans for an event that celebrates 56 Years of the Falcon and 91 Years of Ford Australia, and we’ve been working behind the scenes to set up a Tribute event worthy of our iconic car.
We’re calling all Falcon enthusiasts to join us on October 2nd for a day of festivities that has everything an enthusiast could want. We’ll be covering both Geelong and Broadmeadows, with a mix of displays and driving, and taking the opportunity to drive past iconic Ford locations in between the two locations.
We want to see Falcons and Australian Built Fords, of every model and colour, come out to celebrate these iconic cars, and show the communities that built them our passion and appreciation.
7.30am: Geelong, the spiritual home of Ford Australia
Falcon Fans, let's turn Geelong Blue on the last weekend of Falcon manufacturing!
We are encouraging an informal meet up on the Geelong Waterfront Sunday 2nd October from 7.30 am - 11am.
Park up at any available public car parking bay in and around the Geelong Waterfront and surrounding areas to catch up with fellow enthusiasts and check out the vast array of Falcons of every vintage. We want Falcons of all ages and models to converge on Geelong waterfront and surrounding areas and turn the city into an informal Falcon display wherever you turn.
Make sure you're wearing the best of your Ford, FPV, Tickford or FPR/Prodrive/DJR clothing to REPRESENT, ensuring you are visible to all fellow Falcon fans for instant recognition, friendship and conversations wherever you go.
It is important to note, this is not a structured or organised car or club display, and is not promoted or supported by Ford Australia, or any specific Ford car club. You are free to park where you can, come and go when you wish, bring your friends, grab breakfast or coffee with your crew wherever you please. This is event organised by enthusiasts for enthusiasts to celebrate our great Falcon and the people behind Ford Australia
11am - Make your way from Geelong to Broadmeadows
As above, this is not an organised drive cruise. You are welcome in your own time to make your way from Geelong to Broadmeadows in whichever path you choose to take. You will be highly likely to have friendly faces in many Falcons alongside you no doubt.
Naturally there are many iconic landmarks along the way to drive past, such as Geelong Engine Plant and Stamping Plant, Ford Casting Plant, Broadmeadows Assembly Plant and others. Based on the media circus that may plague Ford factories in the final week of production, we believe Sunday 2nd Oct is a fantastic and respectful way to pay tribute to these iconic landmarks.
Ford have made it clear through various media releases they don't want enthusiasts to turn up on their doorstep during the last week as employees are losing their jobs, and being sensitive to their requests we believe is important. Hopefully this drive gives everyone an opportunity to pay our respects, and do so outside of work hours.
1pm Broadmeadows, the spiritual home of the Falcon
From 1 pm through to 3:30 pm enthusiasts are invited to converge on Prodrive Racing Australia (PRA) in Campbellfield. PRA is Australia’s premier Ford race team, the reigning V8 Supercars Champions and Back-to-Back Bathurst Winners in 2013 & 2014.
SuperBlack Racing / PRA driver Chris Pither will be joining the festivities. He’s one of the nicest guys in the series and this is a great opportunity to have a chat with him away from the distractions and time pressures at the track.
Most of you will know the name Rob Herrod, the guru behind Herrod Motorsport and Australia's most recognised Ford Tuner. Rob will also be joining us at PRA, so it’s a great opportunity to catch up with him to hear about his many years of experience with Fast Falcons and now Mustangs.
We're also hopeful of having some other special guests join us during the afternoon, schedules permitting.
We need to say a very special thank you to Tim Edwards and everyone at PRA for providing our afternoon venue. Their support of our efforts to celebrate Ford Australia and the Falcon have been invaluable.
With the race team on its way to Bathurst to mount their 2016 campaign the PRA Shop will be closed, but if you're after team merchandise make sure you see them this weekend at Sandown or get on-line at prastore.com.au.
If you need a bite to eat, volunteers will be raising money for charity with a sausage sizzle, and they’ll also have cool drinks available.
Prodrive Racing Australia is located at Unit 4 / 40 Glenbarry Road, Campbellfield.
If you don’t know the area, this is directly across Sydney Road from the Ford Broadmeadows Assembly Plant, and is also the site of former Ford Performance Vehicles factory, which was the birthplace of many modern era performance Falcons.
There is plenty of on-site and street parking available, but if you arrive early please keep the entrance clear and wait until 1 pm before entering the site.
This is an Alcohol Free event, and we also ask all enthusiasts to be respectful of all road rules and as we want this tribute to have only positive coverage and experiences for all concerned.
