Sounds like the official for the women's team did them no favours. What's your take on the lead up drama

yep mate one of the big skeletons in the closet.
My game here has been polarised for one by the Lowys running the game overall and the appointments they have made over the years that jump when told.
Gallop for one ex NRL chief is so bad for us can't wait till he gets punted one day.
The Womens official well, yes another vermon who went down the wrong path sacking the coach who got the Matildas up to the levels today, with him still running them they could have gone deeper in the tournament possibly.
They started falling off before the WC commenced.
Prior they were pecking up the rankings as real contenders, beating some power house countries in other tournaments.
Kerr pretty much is in the top 5 women players globally.
Heather Reid made such a wrong call in sacking Stajic its beyond a joke.
Here's some feedback from the only other forum I frequent - football one ofcourse.

    Hi Heather,

Hope you are having a nice time in France viewing the fruits of your labour.

You need to resign. You need to leave. You need to vacate. You to get out, You need to disappear from the FFA.

And never be involved in any capacity within Australian football ever again because this shameful episode where you trashed an innocent persons reputation enabled by your lickspittles followed by a mealy mouthed lawyer written apology to avoid Stajic bankrupting the FFA with legal action proves beyond a shadow of a doubt you have no idea what you're doing & never will.

We know what you are. We know you didn't mean the apology at all. We know you don't have any sort of moral compass whatsoever.

Just leave. Don't wait for the "review".

If you had a conscience you would walk.

    Sincerely,
    Australian Football

All these wonderful volunteers out here coaching the kids and people like Heather Reid getting a pay check???

FFA, shame. I will not spend a cent on my coaching upgrades with this lot sucking cash out of the coffers.

Why are you still involved in football Heather you scheming sabotager of Australian football?

Are you going to apologise to the entire Matilda's team personally for undermining their World Cup efforts?

Why did no one in the team come out in support of having Stajic removed Heather?

    It's time to go Heather.

Ian, here's another that just came out from one of our long time ex player now commentary.

Former Socceroo Robbie Slater has blasted the Matildas’ Women’s World Cup campaign — and all the drama leading up to it — as “calamitous”.

Australia slumped to their worst result at the tournament in 16 years and Fox Football expert Slater is pointing fingers at people behind the scenes for what has says is “an absolute fail”, blaming “selfish decisions by certain individuals” for disrupting preparations.

Speaking on Fox Sports News, Slater took aim at Football Federation Australia (FFA) over Alen Stajcic’s controversial sacking and the effect it had on the Matildas’ preparation in France.

    Slater's brutal Matildas call7:30

“There’s a lot of things we’re going to look back and regret,” he said.

“I think out of eight halves of football we probably had two good halves and I think if we’re brutally honest and we cut to the bone and cut the crap, then there’s a lot that’s gone wrong.

“The calamitous penalty shootout mirrored the whole campaign and I take the whole campaign as going back to what happening three months before the World Cup when they sacked Alen Stajcic for reasons that were given but weren’t clear.

“There’s never been clarity since then and that was seen during their preparation.

“On top of that, the decision to appoint Ante Milicic and it was always going to be a difficult job but you’ve got someone who has never coached a women’s team, in fact had never coached a senior team.”

shock dismissal of Stajcic sent shockwaves through the Australian football community

Slater said the call ultimately cost the Matildas at the World Cup.

“... Was it worth changing the coach before the World Cup given the performance we’ve given?

“The answer to that is that I think Stajcic probably would have gotten us to at least the Round of 16. So no, it’s probably a poor decision.”

Slater slammed the FFA’s untimely decision to apologise to Stajcic, while also hitting out at the timing of Professional Footballers Australia upping its bid for pay equality.

“Other questions have to be asked. Why did Heather Reid think it was a good decision to come out and throw the camp into chaos again by coming out and apologising over her statement?

“Reid wasn’t on her own. Why and who made the decision at the PFA to come out two days before the World Cup and challenge FIFA on equality? It’s just ludicrous, that just puts more pressure on the group.

“So instead of the group training with the relaxed attitude, they’re getting asked at press conferences a day before the game about equality and wages.

    Every contentious decision2:01

“Everything was done, in my opinion, to upset that camp and the preparation was disastrous.

“As I say, I feel sorry for that group of players who have had to put up with all the political statements and all the selfish decisions by certain individuals and groups to come out and upset the relaxed camp for the Matildas to play their very best football.

“The Heather Reids, PFAs, FFAs and everyone that has had their little stab at political correctness and equality and wages, you are there to play football. You are at the pinnacle of the game, you are at the World Cup. It’s what every player dreams of - whether you’re a man or a woman - and all you should be thinking about is football and I think they got lost.

“We have to ask ourselves as a nation, ‘did we deserve to win this World Cup’ given what going on in the game and the turmoil and the selfish interests of people trying to get on the back of the Matildas and taking the focus away from the football.

In both the men’s and women’s teams, Australia has lost coaches in the build up to a World Cup in the past three campaigns.

“Holger Osieck was sacked just before a World Cup, Ange Postecoglou walked out before the World and we ended up with Bert van Marwijk. This one Stajcic [was sacked] four months before, so what is going?,” Slater said.

“The coaches that are getting us to World Cups are not staying there for the World Cups.

“Every time we hear the same thing, ‘we’ve learnt a lot, what about the next one?’ The World Cup is not a learning experience — you go to the World Cup to perform and to try and win it.”

Slater said sixth-ranked Australia could not pretend this tournament was not a failure.

“When you’re ranked six in the world, getting knocked out in the Round of 16 is not good enough. It’s quite simple, the World Cup was a fail. An absolute fail,” he said.

“A quarterfinal for me is a pass mark but to be knocked out in the round of 16, it was a fail.

“If we’re going to hope for a medal at the next Olympics, we’re going to have to see a real change in - dare I say it - the culture of the Matildas and what surrounds them.”

    What a Wimbledon Finale.
No wonder these older blokes are still kicking arse, well more so Federer, the Joker has 5yrs on him.
I went to bed on the 4th set, was already a cracker game and knew going to a 5th but had to get some shut eye.

This sport is really missing the younger brigade pushing out the old No1's, Federer, Joker Nadal.
