    single din stereo in ef

Hey guys I'm trying to install a single din stereo in my ef xr8, the stereo is a clarion, I've got all electrical sorted but I'm unsure how to mount it as the brackets out of the car don't fit n the ones that came with stereo don't match up with car. I was hoping to use brackets out of car.
Has anyone done this? Or if u have any suggestions it would be much appreciated. Please help

I did in my EF. I hammered the brackets flat (as they have a dent in them which matches the factory Head Unit. I then drilled holes in it, to roughly sit flat in the dash (it sat a little in, but was fine). The factory brackets worked a treat for 5 or so years.

I'm actually doing the same thing with my EL at the moment, trying to chuck a single DIN stereo in and the brackets don't match the new head unit.

I'm going to butcher the plastic holder in the car, cut holes in the sides and try fit the supplied cage in there and bend the tabs out on the cage into the holes cut into the holder to hold the stereo in place.

I followed Paxton advice, I used the brackets out of the car flatten the end out n then had enlarge one hole n drill the second at the end of a long slot. Just had to make sure u position the brackets so where it screws into the car lined up with the back(black) of the face of the unit(stereo). Then u have to make sure u don't mount it to low or high so using old unit roughly guess the position in which to mount brackets on new unit, making sure they r on a similar line. If your happy to wait I could pull mine out again n show u step by step

    Looks good mate.

My Alpine was slightly too far in behind the fascia, so I couldn't flip it down to open the CD player, but otherwise worked pretty well. Yours looks way better positioned than mine did.

The step by step would be good for the forum too if you don't mind doing it
