I remember reading something years ago about when Mercedes and BMW opened up in the USA. BMW took their own suppliers from Germany and asked them to supply for their american built cars. Mercedes went in and used local American suppliers. Subsequently, the BMWs built in Spartansburg South Carolina (two examples of which I have owned) were better built than the Mercs built in Alabama. I think the U.S. built Passats get a good write up, and nobody has complained about the Freddy Kluger which is built in the USA as well. My X3 is very nicely built, as is my Mexican Jetta.

Local American manufacturers might still be a little average though.
I'm in love with my car. Got a feel for my automobile.

I know for a fact Mercedes are, the build quality is terrible.
