Seems like every time I jump on stuff.co.nz there's an article about freedom campers being filth... Pity, nz would be one of the best countries to do it in I reckon.

We just got back from three days camping at lake cressbrook, was really busy but we managed to snag a site at the edges of the grounds away a bit from everyone else. Only negative was the effort required to lump everything from the car to the site. But we had a ball, it's our second time there and it's just awesome. Last time was middle of summer and 37-38 degrees blows when you're camping haha. This time it was a perfect 27-29 and only 15-17 at night.
Even the little Subaru lugged the trailer just fine with its huge 110kw haha.

Great little bit of nice history Trev.
Good ol cortinas, those 6 went like mad ! XLE's, wish I could afford one back in the day.
My free camp times was during my Surfing nomadic ways - Kombis and a mate much later had a Mitsibishi L300.
You used drive down any dirt roads, find a great secluded surf spot and just stay for a few days and move on to the next if the surf dropped.
Had some epic times and wonderful picturesque East coastline - later got sealed roads, organised picnic areas etcetc ruined it all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now we even have meter parking at sydney beachs FFS, what was once a free world is pay this pay that.
The caravan life is appealing - I get hound by a sister inlaw who we just had that holiday in the cabin but I just can't get over the prep before, pack up, if raining etcetc.....
Towing - I love my usual driving without worrying about dragging so much behind me.
I have to say as mentioned - the kids have a great time, hence I'll do cabins again, we've booked for next year same place already - maybe I'll take the Sprint but I can't do beach driving with her LOL......so not going to happen, hilux 4x4 is the holiday beast of choice till next upgrade.
YNWA ! off to CL 2018.

Fucking things, handled like a sponge cake with that 6 pot in it though, the BP garage I worked at 20 odd years ago had one as the garage runabout with the 3.3/200 six in it and a three speed manual converted with a Speco floor shift, was like a clown car to drive, ridiculous

I never really held Cortinas in high regard until I drove a TF Ghia with the alloy head 250/4.1 and a four speed. Bloody thing went like hell and could handle too.

Yep, they were floaters, I just liked how they were appointed for the times and that 6pack went hard in a small chassis.
I recall a race car or 2 done back then, looked tuff but were flops.

6 cylinder Cortinas for racing? In Un Zud maybe. They only ever raced the "old" original Cortina GT's here.

Doubt it, inline 6 cylinder cortinas were rare as hens teeth in nz, biggest was generally the 2.3 v6.
Same as the escorts, 2.0l ones weren't as rare as six cylinder cortinas but still pretty uncommon.
We had 1.1,1.3 and 1.6 mostly. I owned a 1.1 auto escort for a short time. Man that thing was sloooow
