Jim Beam joined with Johnson and Davison as the drivers on a cut priced deal which was activated very strongly by the marketing team. At the conclusion of the first deal they informed the team they wanted to resign but could not continue with the team unless the hangover of the Westpoint/self funded time was cleaned up which was achieved with Charlies buy in.
Courtney at that point in time was all but headed for FPR until a last minute big dollar offer was made by Charlie without Dicks knowing as I understand it.
The championship victory was achieved against the odds and very much robbed the budget for the following season to live for the now. Remember the following year Steve who was out of Courtneys shadow performed well until the Phillip Island round when the team had made a change to 'fix' a flaw in the 888 chassis package. In all honestly that fall was most likely due to the final go fast bits from the previous season reaching end of life and the budget not allowing for more latest gen parts to be purchased.
Courtney brought us a championship, for that I am greatful but his conduct while doing so won him few admirers. I don't blame him for jumping when he did, but even had he stayed or even had he gone to FPR (anyone ever find a pepsi can with his mug in it?) I would still not be a fan, nor would I excuse his conduct in the whole DJR implosion

    Great drive.
Chaz is getting back in form.

DJR still have some more work to do on race pace late in the race. Bathurst is fast approaching, and you need to have a fast car at the end of the race.
