Vehicle safety ratings reveal if your car is safe enough to drive

The safety ratings of almost 400 cars available in Australia have been released to help drivers make informed choices

The ratings compare 389 vehicles manufactured between 1982 and 2015.
In the small car market, the BMW 1 series Audi A3 Subaru Impreza and Toyota Prius 3 all rated five stars.*
The best performing medium sized cars are the Audi A4, Ford Mondeo, Mazda 6 and Peugeot 407.*
The top SUV picks are the ford territory Hyundai Santa Fe CM, Mazda CX 7 and the Toyota Kluger.*
The most dangerous small cars are the Ford Laser, Hyundai Excel and Nissan Pulsar with just one star, with the worst performing medium sized cars are the Toyota Celica, Honda Prelude and the Mitsubishi Galant.
The NRMA's Peter Khoury told 9NEWS buyers don’t need to be limited to the new car market when purchasing a safe car.
“We encourage people to look at the second hand market, because there’s some really good bargains,” Mr Khoury said.

History is a statement, the future is a question.
