I think the decision was far more than just profiling demographics.

AMG have long made their participation in Motorsport about showcasing and exploiting their engineering excellence.

Supercars is a parity formula, AMG was never a good fit if they were to be true to their values.

BMW M Sport were more blunt in their rebuttal of the series.....

I think that was at the heart of the issue. Most Prestige brands pride themselves on their engineering excellence. They use Motorsport as a development environment.

I understand the brand misalignment. Or should I say I used to going back to when Betty first got into Supercars back in 2012-13. Since then the sucess of the 'mini compact' Mercs and AMG range in Australia along with their lower sub $100k pricing point has seen that alignment dramically shift.

I would go as far as saying that if Merc/AMG wasn't so short-sighted and supported Betty they would be reaping the rewards by now.
haha, how many gens before your Dad but no doesn't count anyway.
Your fam from your Dad like mine had become Australianised if you know what I mean more so seeing what its like from another nationalities way of life and manner.

Having done business and around them over the years (I'll be in Frankfurt next week) I've observed/listened where they feel they stand in the world. Above most if not all nationalities.
The point of having a range vehicles sub $100k nowadays has no bearing on this imo.
Full stop they want to play where it suits them, and correct as mentioned our catergry just doesn't fit how they prefer going racing, they have the resource and all why be in something that has so many limitations and besides, it wouldn't help increasing any healthy market share they enjoy today nor branding, they don't need supercars one bit.
YNWA ! off to CL 2018.
