Kumho ku31 - 245 40 18
yes, i know, its another tyre thread. these appear to be a popular tyre so just after some feedback regarding noise and mileage on these. not to concerned about anything else as i don't ever push my car anywhere near the limits of any tyre.
i currently have falken ziex 912 on and after 40000km i thought they were going well.... until i stuck my head under this arvo and discovered zero tread on the inside of both left hand tyres. not sure why, will look into it, (car had wheel alignment at last service (75000km)). long story short is i need new boots asap and these are the best value tyres i can see.
just after some reviews on noise and life.
thanks.

Mine are doing ok on life given the screw in the front right and the lack of wheel alignment since it was lowered
There is a noticeable humm coming from the tyres though that gets louder with speed but I rarely drive with the windows open or the radio off so it hasn't been much of an issue. I've read plenty of other reviews complaining of noise though.
-
yeah, noise is the feedback that worries me a little. i've also read many reviews and some say they are nice and quiet whilst others complain they are noisy. thats why i thought i'd just ask the question regarding this specific size, as different sizes can give different feedback.
like you though, noisy tyres wouldn't be the end of the world for me although i do do an interstate trip each year (adelaide - brisbane). kids are normally 'plugged in' and the mrs normally sleeps so probably not that much to worry about ;-)

What prices are you finding them?
Iirc I paid $180ea for my 245's online from Ozzy Tyres, free delivery, then about $25ea locally for fitting.
-
tempe tyres - $680 for 4 with free delivery nationwide until monday. i'm envisaging about the same for fit/balance etc. considering they are over $300ea locally here in adelaide.....
-
Have used them a few times - noise is the only issue with these - for the price range there always has to be a compramise.
-
i guess i could just turn up the 'doof doof', but then i'd have to wear a cap.... and backwards at that:p

Nice tyre, very quite and smooth, much better than the orginal Dunlops to be honest. I am quite surprised to read feedback on them being noisey. Being an non directional tyre this is quite a surprise and not the experience I had. The compromise in my mind was always around handling performance which I didnt find a problem for the type of driving I do in the FG XR6T.
They didnt however last as long lasting only around 23,000 kms.
Please keep in mind I was using 19" versions.
I would ask your tyre place if they would be willing to exchange them if you find them noisey. I have found most will if you raise this as a concern upfront. I had mine fitted at Stillwell Ford.
-
thanks colville. i think the ku31's are still a directional tyre. the feedback regarding noise is still 50/50 looking at a range of forums, not just car enthusiast.
from what i've noticed in the past, as you go up in diameter, normally the compounds get softer, so this might be why your feedback on the 19's suggests they are quieter and wear quicker.
the free delivery deal lasts until tomorrow so i will get on the blower tomorrow morning and see if i can find something locally for comparable price, otherwise its hard to beat the ku31's @ $170ea.

i bought the ku31's on monday. they arrived wednesday morning. fantastic service. free delivery from sydney in less than 2 days. big thumbs up for tempe tyres.
i waited until monday so that i could ring a couple of local places to see what was available locally for similar coin. the ku31's were $292ea locally!! made the decision a bit easier. $680 for 4, delivered.
obviously i'll find out what they are like as a tyre. i figure they are a pretty good compromise for a daily driver that gets driven by both myself and my wife and also my parents on occasion and other family members. i do prefer to stick with a brand thats been around for years even though many other cheaper tyres would probably do the same job.
can't get them fitted until tuesday next week so its on the bike to work this week.
