At a time when the car industry is clambering to release greener vehicles, Ford has dropped its most efficient car.
It was billed as the car that toppled the Toyota Prius hybrid as the most fuel-efficient vehicle available in Australia, but now Ford’s green hero, the Fiesta ECOnetic, has been put out to pasture.
Ford quietly withdrew the environmental hero from its line-up recently, although some dealers still have stock of the car.
Launched locally in October 2009, the Fiesta was lauded as setting “a new fuel efficiency benchmark” of just 3.7 litres per 100km.
Ford ran an aggressive marketing campaign against the Prius, with an ad showing a worker having to pull down a poster advertising the Toyota as the country’s most efficient car.
