The Project

As you all would probably know, I am looking at getting a FH XR8 if they turn out to my expectations. I also have a love of the original EB2 XR8 and XR6. So this got me thinking why not have the very first XR8 and the very last XR8?

A quick through Gumtree found this example.

An auto XR8 in not too bad condition. Motor is a runner with some minor damage on 2 panels. Mechanicals look solid and no oil leaks. More importantly a good point to start from. Then on the same day I looked and found this gem.

A great EB2 XR6. The only issue is no diff. This car is in great condition with great panels and interior. Motor is a runner and the mechanicals are also in great condition.

So the plan will be transfer the required panels, trims and interior to the XR8. There are some mechanicals that need to also be added. So including new tyres I will have a great factory looking XR8 for under $2500! The older gear will then be put on the XR6 and I will slowly build that back to factory. Haven't decided what I will do with it after that. Not much will have to be done to get it there though.

Will keep updates as I progress. Pick the cars up over the next few weeks.

Future classic right there IMO. Especially the xr8

Love the EB2's. Sounds like a fun protect.

Thanks guys. Have been thinking about something like this for a while. Just great that these 2 examples came up so close to each other. Won't have to buy too many parts to make up the XR8 so I am very happy. Will be a fun build.

Damn bargain by the looks of it - even better close by.

Definitely. Both cars cost me a total of $1600. Apart from oils etc the only extra parts I will need is a front drivers 1/4 panel, new rotors and pads, new tyres and a couple of other incidentals. All I need is some spare time to get through the jobs. Keen to get back on the tools again.

I love the idea of the first and last xr8's.

I have the first XR8 in Le mans Red 1991 Auto and it has just clocked 453000 k's ......just a great shopping trolley....

Yep Lynton I have done my side of the bargain. Just up to Ford now to deliver with the FH Falcon. Taking my time with the EB so all things going to plan I will have it all done and dusted later next year. Then the following year grab the FH. Keen as mustard to see them both together in the shed. Missus is OK about the FH but doesn't know about this one. Ah well, have 12 months to come up with a good story for that one! :highly_amused:
