I need some honest ideas here guys. I know of brake fade issues and its easy to point out brembos but I feel the stock calipers are strong enough to stop but the discs and pads are a let down.I am thinking cross drilled and slotted dba rotors if they have them. What do you guys recommend?
I agree. If you are getting fade consider a better grade of fluid. If its better feel you are after a change in pads can give you that. Imo many of the performance packages available go too hard for the pads for street application. There is also dust consideration if you are worried about that sort of thing. The type of rotor design really depends the type of driving you are doing. If you are getting alot of heat into this component I personally wouldn't go for cross drills as they tend to crack easier.
Forget cross drilled Stav - not needed and has been proven you just need slotted types. Those DBA4000's do the job or equivelant brands.
As Ian mentions better quality brake fluid when you do this change up.
Man as for brake pads - so many and so many opinions and as Ian also mentions caring of too much brake dust or not ?
Higher temp pads are pretty doughy at start up and low speeds for they need temp to get maximun bite but once driven around a bit they feel great.
Low temp grab cold and bite fast but would fade in spirited driving like a bseries cruise up the putty rd or ol pac hwy if you really need to brake hard multiple times.
It is a compramise my friend but definately one to be addressed being an enthusiast driver.
Thanks guys for your honest ideas. The fg is a daily work hack so I will be content with consistent braking performance . Dust or not for the killometers i do it needs to be safe
I've found DBA 4000 and Ferodo DS Performance to be an excellent combo on my FG XR6T.
I had a good result with RDA slotted and dimpled rotors matched to EBC Redstuff pads. Excellent bite, even cold with good fade resistance. Also very minimal dust which is nice but the down side is that sometimes you can get quite a residue build up that feels like a mild warp in the rotors but its not, you can see the discolouration on the surface of the rotor. This happened on the SP but not on the F6 Typhoon, not sure why. I have certainly heard good things about the Ferodo DS Performance pads and would give them a go.
Braided lines help a great deal aswell, pedal feel is much tighter with a set.
Adrenaline yes your car brakes seemed quite good when i drove it. Dba4000 rotors are what im looking at.I also heard braided lines help alot but its the brake fade im fighting. Before that it actually stopped well
I am just about to get RDA rotors and better pads fitted on the ute but initially front only. I will detail the results next week.
Do RDA come in different ranges like the DBA? e.g. 4000, 5000. What sort of pads have you decided on?Quote:
