brake caliper upgrade

Hi everyone.

At the moment ny ford xr8 serie2 is sitting in the garage. It is in need of a service. And im positive the brake caliper is locked on the rear right wheel. Because there is a scratching sound when I drive and sometimes the mag rim heats up really hot.

So instead of just doing a replacement. I would like to upgrade the calipers all round. I will doing this in the next few months. I was wondering if anyone could help me decide which ones I should upgrade too?

I dont want to spend too much maybe the 500 dollar mark would be fine for all four. I will go more only if I see its worth it.

Depending on what you want out of your brakes, the 322mm brake upgrade from the BF XR6 Turbo/Territory is a good option (front rotors). I have this on my S3 XR8 ute and they work well. You won't find a set of 4 of callipers, brackets, rotors and pads for under $500. Upgrading just the fronts to the bigger size and replacing your rears with a DBA/RDA rotor and matching pad will be a huge imrovement.

If your car has been sitting for a length of time with the handbrake ON this is most likely where the problem lies; not the caliper. The caliper only activates when you apply pressure to the brake pedal. At all other times the pads are not in contact with the rotors so there should never be an issue of calipers/pads locking on.

Your most economical upgrade is what Gav said - Early Territory and BA/BF GT calipers and rotors are easy to find. The rotor size is 325 x 32 which you can also buy quite cheaply aftermarket if you find some second hand calipers with pads from the wreckers. $500 is definitely going to be bottom end; and this is only the fronts. In all honesty the rears are pretty much a waste of time spending tokens on unless you plan to do track days.

The reason I wanted to upgrade all the brakes is because in the future I want to put a supercharger on. Just wanted extra braking safety. But if 500 is very low for what I want to do. Ill just wait and get it fixed asap. Then buy brakes and the charger at the same time. Thanx guys for the support. Oh and I would love to get it on the track some day. Its just not ready yet.

I will also check if it was the handbrake. But the reason its in the garage is beacause of this problem. Has only been in there for a month.
