Tailshaft sheared - scary scary
My wife called me with a bit of trouble - driving out of a carpark and there was a horrible sound from underneath and it all came to a shuddering halt. Thankfully she was parked outside a service station so they pushed it in and put it on the hoist. The results were a bit of a surprise.
Firstly that the front tail shaft had torn in half, secondly that it was full of cardboard (very old school) and lastly there is LOTS OF RUST inside what should be a sealed part. ?????

As you can see the part still has its original stickers on it, and they are even legible.
The vehicle is a 2007 registered, Late 2006 build, BF2 XR6 NA. Its never towed or really been stressed (wife's daily drive) and has about 100km on the clock.
So far the message from the Ford dealer hasn't been encouraging thus far. "There are no recall campaigns on your VIN - so its your problem - so what do you want to do?"
This looks like the same problem that has a recall out - but this car is about a year older than the recall date range.
Any suggestions on how to get Ford to take it seriously?
