Which engine in 351 format is best out Cleveland or Windsor
Oh NO
Surprised Norm hasn't been all over this
Cleveland.
351W isnt a great motor, massive mains and poor breathing heads!
There i said it!
What's greater .. 6 or half a dozen? LOL.
Hey Norm ... whatcha sayin' der Willis? Windsor with massive mains? I though the whole reason the Cleveland took over was because of it's stronger bottom end with larger journals built to better withstand the rigours of high RPM in racing conditions.
I have an original 69 351 4V Windsor still ... and two 351C 2V Clevos. Love them all to bits and each has it's stronger points and weaker points ... hang on sorry can't say "weaker" 'cos we're talking about Fords here LOL. I should say "less strong points". The Windsor pound for pound is a little more economical in street guise and is a tad lighter. The Clevos are heavy and you can tell the difference in the front end behaviour as soon as you get in one car from the other. I dunno why, (probably the different firing order), but the old school Clevos sound better than the Windsors. However nothing beats the sound of the modern Windsor esp the stroker. Am I biased? Possibly LOL.
There is no argument here , Windsor is and always be he better motor , reliability , drive ability , econo bility ,
The best was a 351w still is , the next best was the original 302Boss !!
This is the basis for the current Supercar engines , albeit an evolution from it .
289 Windsor , Quad webbers , singing in a GT40 ......sex.......Clevo in my GT Coupe ...down Conrod , Flying fifth 138 MPH ...Trippy......WIN WIN!!!
Well living in a fishing area I see a lot of clevos and windsors and after asking all those who use them the popular consensus is the there are fewer boats found drifting with clevos as it is easier to attach the rope and they tend to snag on coral better :)
Except performance.
4V Cleveland is and has always been the king of the Ford small block family. Ford developed it to replace the 351W and fix the breathing issues.
The most successful Ford engine ever raced in Australia.
Current V8SC engine is a hybrid mix of both engines, a modern "Boss" 302.
