Jodie's 1984 XE Fairmont Ghia EFI build

Going to put together a build thread for my wife's XE Ghia.

Plans at this stage (subject to change!)

* Full re-spray (colour yet to be determined, but will be noticeable!)
* 19" Chrome Wheels
* EL/XH ECU to run the old X-Flow EFI 6
* Re-Trimmed Interior
* Update A/C pump
* Clear Front and Rear indicators

Some potential mods, but not as likely:
* BBM Manifold on the X-Flow
* BTR 4 Speed (not even sure if this is possible) or ADO 4 Speed
* 3.23/3.45 EF/EL rear end if the above goes ahead.

Current mods before we start are:
* Crappy, rusty, press bends Extractors
* 2 1/2" exhaust with Mandrel tailpipe (not too bad)
* Lowered Front and Rear Kings springs (not sure on specs)

Car is in good general condition, minimal rust. Little bit on each side at the lower rear roof turrets.

Can you use E series ECUs to run the old injection system on the X series cars? I'm following this thread with interest, keep us up to date :)

There was a guy in Perth a couple of years ago who had a XF Fairmont Ghia wagon with what looked like EB/ED running gear. I'd say he wrecked an XG to allow the later series EFI SOHC engine to run as well as the 4 speed.

Yes/No.

If it was an XF EFI, it would have been much easier as they have the TFI dizzy and same ECU plug as EA-ED & EL. Would just need to swap ECU pins around to suit (basically).
So with the XE, I have gotten my hands on a XF Dizzy (or could use an E series with the gear turned upside down) XF Throttle body (as XE's have a different (read: basic TPS)) and XF ISC.
I did mod the XE TB to accept a E-series TPS, but not overly happy with it.

The reason behind using the XH/EL ECU are to, 1. Get rid of the bottle neck Vane Air Flow Meter. 2. Better power and injection control. 3. Gives me 2 stage Thermo Fan control. 4. Gives good A/C control and does the Fan at the same time. Also, there are J3 Chips that I can have tuned if/when needed. Just need to bypass smartlock, either via a J3 chip or a bypass module.

I know that people will say, just drop a 4.0 in it, but there is something a bit cool about the EFI X-Flow.

Here is a pic of a XM/XP with an injected X-Flow. Not sure what ECU he was running (wasn't at the car at the time) but clearly running a MAP sensor setup instead of the Vane meter.
Nice, neat setup. The only thing I would have done is run the ignition leads around the back.

As for the BTR, from what little I have read, they don't bolt up to the X-Flow as they have a different bolt paten, so that might stop me straight up.

Interesting on the ability to use an E series ECU with some minor mods, you can bypass smartlock with a J3, so don't worry about trying to tap in one of those modules :)

Do you remember noobus from xfalcon? He's running complete e series injection on his cross flow. Seems to work a trick.

Looks a heap tidier than the old bunch of bananas manifold on the xe/f's too

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the old log manifold. If I was going to goto that much trouble, I'd definitely go for a BBM setup.
I like the centre feed to the plenum. Although that might be more my OCD and a performance gain hahaha!
