E series Anniversary GT's
I thought I would start a thread for anyone with an EB or EL GT, or just for anyone wanting to post pics of any E series GT's they see out and about.
I'll get started with my 30th Anniversary Falcon GT. I've only owned this car for a month but it's been a long time coming! I've loved the EL GT since the first came out, as I was just 17 when they were released and the latest and greatest thing from Ford. As a young apprentice though I was a long long way from being able to afford the $70,000 price tag. So years went by with me dreaming that one day I would own one, all the time collecting bits and pieces and memorabilia for them. As the years went by I went through a few different Falcon's and probably had the chance to buy one a few times but always chose something more practical I suppose. So I always said that it had to be a manual, had to be Sparkling Burgundy, had to have a sunroof (I would change my mind on that after owning a T2 TE50 with a sunroof), had to be 100% stock standard original and had to have less than 30,000k's. So I watched them in Unique Cars and on carsales over the years, still dreaming. Then in late November last year while on night shift at work a mate tells me to come have a look what he's found for sale. There's a Sparkling Burgundy EL GT in WA at a dealership. It's perfect, Sparkling Burgundy, manual with less than 30,000k's. I decide right then and there that if this car is as good as it looks in the pics then I'm finally going to do it. So I send off the emails and arrange to see the car when I'm back in Perth from work. Off the plane on the Wednesday morning from night shift and straight to the dealership, the GT is immaculate. I'm sold. Only problem is that I was off to America for 5 1/2 weeks on the Sunday so this deal had to be done in record time or it wasn't going to happen. My finance is already sorted but I don't have time to change it, this is my offer take it or leave it. They didn't accept, they tried to haggle with me. I stood my ground and by 5:30 that afternoon I was the proudest owner in Australia of an EL GT! I couldn't believe it. So on that Friday I traded my BA GT MkII and drove the EL home with the biggest, dumbest smile on my face. Then, after waiting almost 15 years to own one I had to wait another 5 weeks to drive it.
So there's a little history about me and how I came to own this GT.
A little about the car itself. Well it was sold new in 1997 in NSW, and was kept by its original owner for 12 years, in that time he did 16,000k's in it. When the GFC hit he had to sell some of his toys so a guy in Geraldton WA bought the car, trucked it over here and stored it in Perth. He put another 2,000k's on it before trading it on a LandCruiser Sahara. That's when I found it at a Toyota dealership. I will be the cars last owner and it will remain completely stock for the rest of it's life. I hope you guys didn't mind the story and enjoy the pics.
Cheers, Steve.
