I read something about having both port amd direct fuel injection. PFIDI or something.
Interesting idea, so you'd have 2x injectors you usually would, I wonder why its neccessary, with DI engines if you run that intake cleaner stuff through them it works wonders.
The Boxer engine that is in the GT-86/BRZ has this now. Good engine, that is still a little undercooked for the platform.
The one problem that the VW FSI engines suffer from is valve carbonisation, as mentioned by Red F6310.
The new Ecoboost engine sounds like it will be a pretty special engine.
A few years ago, Ford and michigan IT were playing with "Bobcat"
a project that used ethanol direct injection as an Octane booster while the main PFI fueling was regular gasoline.
The intent was to replace diesel engines for the USA and neatly avoid expensive diesel emission after treatment.
In the end, they discovered that dual fuel systems and near diesel bottom end strength approached cost of diesel.
I'm wondering if costs have now come down because of single fuel on DI/PFI system achieves good gains..
