What is your most memorable FPV experience?

What is the experience behind the wheel of an FPV that sticks in your mind the most?

I have put this in the Boss section but let's include the F6 and new SCV8.

My all time favorite is the sound of my old GT on the twisting mountain roads of Mt Nebo and Mt Glorious in Brisbane. The sound of the V8 through a large bore exhaust was pure bliss, particularly as it reverberates off the rock wall on some of the bends.

That or the surge from the F6 on those same roads as the turbo came on song, very few Aussie cars that I have experienced could match the shove in the back that car could dish out.

Great question Lynton. I think personally it been some of the stuff I have help organise with FPV for the car club. Some of the presentations, being able to see the human side of the guys that make these machines is probably my highlight. Over the years I have learnt a lot from listening

My first drive of a new S/C 5.0 GT.... ill never forget it, Andrew from Etheridge had rung me and asked me if id like it for the arvo, you can guess my response, simply breath taking, fastest most tractible new Falcon ive ever driven.

My thoughts:

Start-up.

The engine is quiet, nothing unobtrusive, but a quick nail of the throttle and all hell breaks loose. Id describe it as very “Trebly”, not “Bassy”, it sounds like a small capacity V8, not a large capacity engine, which of coarse is what it is, the pops, burbles and crackles on a trailing throttle are a nice touch! Inside its quiet enough to not be annoying, but you know its an 8, and the S/C whine is there.

Initial feel.

The car gets off the line with ease, below 2000 rpm its very easy to drive, has great manners and really would be an easy car to live with on a daily basis.

Getting things going.

Im lucky to live near the Yarra Valley, lots of flowing sweeping roads.
Ok, time to explore, in a word, the car is simply amazing, easily the quickest production Falcon ive ever driven. From 2500 rpm it hauls with such Linear force its simply addictive. The auto trans works fantastic, changes are seamless and the car does not stumble or bog one bit, they both really seem to work well together. Having driven an F6 recently on the same road this engine seems to work even better with the ZF and without the slight stumble/fart the F6 is renowned for.
If you nail and trail the throttle in short road sections you can hear it dump boost, but nail it again and throttle response is instant, no lag whatsoever, something i found a little annoying with the F6.

Handling.

Flowing corners show a few things, grip is heavily dependant on the surface, some surfaces are fine and it will hook up without issue, even off the line, others will cause prolonged intervention from the DSC, all in all im now convinced compound is the issue not just width.
The linear (not parabolic) nature of the power delivery really makes this car easier to drive fast, it feels predictable and is reassuring.
Its clear to me now that FPV need another suspension setting above what’s in the GT, this engine has in many ways exceeded the chassis, time for a track setting I think, the car can feel a bit nervous mid corner, but to be honest it could also be tyre pressures which I didn’t have time to play with. One thing is for sure, it’s a sharper turner than the previous car, initial turn in is quite responsive and can take a mild readjustment. The key to driving this car quickly is to not overshoot corners and “point to point” it but carry speed, carry some throttle and "flow" it.

Summary.

What a great car, no, what a fantastic car!!!, power is extremely linear and feels like it will never sign off it just keeps climbing with amazing ferocity.
The Std GT brakes are adequate.. but if you like pushing hard allot the 6/4’s are needed.
You need to drive this car to truely appreciate how good it is, Big smiles all around, i had a great afternoon!!!!

A couple of weeks ago I was invited by a young bloke, by the name of Tyler, to go to Autotech as he was having his car tuned there.

We took it for drive after the tune and I must say that it was a very unique thing to be driving 395rwkw, mainly due to the fact cars with this much power usually make a lot of noise. This was traveling at warp speed but, in relative terms, in total silence. Very different feeling to what I expected.

The power delivery is makes it very trusting to drive hard, very controllable. The brakes were very reassuring, the way it was gliding over Parramatta road's many irregularities was something else; reminded me of the many quarrels people have had concerning the lack of "handling" in these cars. They're definitely made for the roads, not for the racetrack, and thank God for that!

Personally my favourite moment would be the first drive of your very own FPV. The dreaming, the waiting for it to arrive, the thrill of knowing that you are the first person to own it, drive it, scrape it on the driveway :) etc.

Never been in a FPV or owned one so my closest experience is reading about all of you that have.

For me it had to be the first time laying eyes on the beast I bought over the phone.. the first time sitting in it and looking at it knowing that I was the proud second owner of a GTP that is build number 2.. and the fact I bought her myself, no-one else is ever able to lay claim to be theirs when in fact it was mine!!!!

The love of the car has never left me as yet and I doubt it will... the thrill of knowing there is power if I want it or need it, learning how to NOT scrape in driveways and just how far to park away from those horrid parking area bumps...

going for a midnight run in a mates warmed over fg f6. went from zero to all hell breaking loose in a blink of an eye.

i have never driven anything that showed such utter contempt for traction or something that just goaded you into going faster and faster. was no real surprise when i got the text saying it had been written off in sydney a few months back.

quite possibly the only car that has truly scared me the same way a big sportsbike does when it comes on song. i loved it lol.

Easy.

The 2011 Longford flying mile when I got to let the scud off it's leash for the very first time.

Ran 3rd fastest terminal speed, beaten by a gt40 and a shelby super snake. I ran quicker than the lambos, several ferraris, the porsches, many 'race cars' including a dodge viper le man car and the perkins v8 supercar, all the amg Mercs, quicker than the Audi r8, and the r35 GTR. There was well over 100 entrants.

I didn't get a chance to back it up in 2012, octagon declined 2 applications from me and one from BPR. Thee was an agenda I have yet to fully understand, but the consensus was from everyone I spoke with was that some noses were out of joint in 2011...

Second best memory was this year when I took the car to heathcote, first run went 11.4. Was set to go quicker but broke an axel! Next year.
