Lightbars suitable for FG

I had another thread on upgrading globes (last year) but thought i'd start a fresh one specific to lightbars (or spots).

every year i tell myself i should fit extra lighting to my car for my trips interstate, and every year i leave it until the last minute and then run out of time (and money). xmas is coming around rather quickly so once again i'm looking at my options.

after some discussions with various people regarding the best option, i've sort of decided a lightbar will do the job. apparently penetration isn't quite as good as spotties (obviously depending on the product) but i've been told they are much more user friendly, esp if only fitting them once a year. they don't require much in the way of 'aiming', unlike spotties which can need constant adjustments. becuase lightbars offer such a broad beam, they aren't as affected as much.

i have no idea what to look for so just after some advice on a couple of cheaper ones off ebay. not too keen on spending big bucks as i only use them twice a year (once each direction).

fitting wise, i'm looking at just using a number plate mount. as long as they are fitted using some decent attachment (not the supplied self tappers), then they apparently mount up nice and solid.

another option is making up a bracket that bolts up solid behind the grill and some mount points that poke through the honeycomb each side of the ford badge. i'll try the above option first.

I fitted one to my pursuit behind the lower grill. You can bolt on to the reinforcement. Seems like a better option then fitting to a number plate bracket etc.

I'd like to keep it up higher. I did think about putting it below the number plate but figured the lower you mount it the less distance you will get out of it as it will have to be angled higher.

A guy on aff mounted one behind the grill and although the ford badge blocks the middle he says it still pumps out good light.

Yeah, to be honest i only got a 9 led Great white which was specific for low mount applications. I think fitting behind the ford badge would be the GO.

I do not know the law in SA but in QLD you cannot use light bars legally on the road as high beam (even though many do).

Out of the light bars the Great White stuff is the best ones, but they have the price tag to match, get people come in and say they want one of these new fandangled LED light bars.

Then I tell them the price of the Great White one and I usually get something along the lines that I can get one from eBay for $150!!!!!!

We've now got a cheapo one in stock as well, same company that makes the Ironman 4x4 one.

Dash is on the money, mount it behind lower grille or behind the upper one IMO.

If you just want to spend $150 take a punt on the eBay ones, gotta be better than no light bar at least anyway lol.

Now there's a spanner in the works. More research required. What is the difference between running a light bar and spotties? It will be mainly sa, Vic and nsw where I would be mostly travelling at night.

I figured osram was a good brand and comes with 5yr warranty (although the fine print probably excludes just about everything).

Looks like this has been amended. The laws ( adr 13/00) specify driving lights need to be fitted in pairs.... Obviously a rule pre dating the advent of light bars. To make them legal people were putting a blanking plate over the middle, but seems common sense has prevailed.
