BF Oil and Filter

Hi Guys,

I'm half way between services on the BF, so this weekend, it is both the BF and EF's birthdays. For the EF, finding Z9 equivalent filters are easy. This time I'm trialling a K&N Wrench Filter, which should be interesting, but it has to compare with the Purolator PureOne. That filter has been in the EF since December, with one major trip up the coast.

The BF is now my daily driver, and gets hammered, with peak hour traffic, stop starting, and some occasional highway use. I need some advice on what Oil and Filter to stick in it. One caveat, however - I will not use a Ryco Filter, nor Castrol Oil. I'm thinking either a Purolator or K&N, but don't know the part number. As for Oil, enlighten me, please. I have no clue, except for 5w-30.

What do we use in our BFs, and what do we recommend?

Hi mate in my bf I use nylon Hi Tech fast flowing and it is ozy made Nulon Oil at Superceap

At the last service before selling the BF, Liqui Moly was used; very good stuff - I could easily feel the difference. Can't remember what grade sorry - it was 2010.

Interesting you mention this viscosity - I have some 10w-40 in the garage. Shell Helix HX7. I was going to slowly use it in the EF, but if it isn't too think, that might be they way I'll go.

Youssef - I didn't know you sold the BF. What are you getting around in now? Not your Better Half's Mazda...

GDay, in the force I use Nulon 10\40 fast flowing and you say ryco filters arnt any good? cause thats all I use the the Hilux and the force. What is this Purolator you speak of?

The std Puro # is L24651/Ryco Z516.....not sure the new distributer brings in PureOne anymore.
The KN is a good filter as well if easier to purchase go for it.
You know the Cooper brand will suffiently do the job at half the cost of the KN FYI.
Sorry no bseries ownership to comment on oils.

Stumped up and bought a Motorcraft.

I wandered into Ford at lunch time, and asked for an FL820S. I don't think they liked that too much. After getting the Pad Thai equivalent, I asked if they had any FL1As. They keep the American made FL1A in stock, but not the 820S, which is disappointing. Oh yeah, the FL1A won't fit as a Z9 replacement (something which I know to be false).

Looks like I'm going to the States in July anyway. I'll start taking orders soon.

Use Edge 10w-60 in the Ute, due to the increased pressures developed. I don't see why you would, however I reckon a 40 weight oil would be ok. I also use Ryco filters, never had a failure in more than 40 years.
I have used a K&N Filter since I owned the Ute, I clean it when dirty.
