10 mm steering pump bracket leaking oil

hi guys,

I need some info for an AUIII falcon forte 6 cylinder straight motor 2002 model lower front 10mm bolt with a round split washer. The washer is not a sprint washer. The area around the front of the head where this bolt goes in , is leaking oil.
I have tried a simple o ring to not avail on sealing it up.
What i'm asking, is there a special type of seal , maybe something like a step washer/o ring seal that fits around this bolt and between the head that is meant to be there?

I've had a look through the manual for this vehicle and nothing is mentioned , unless I've overlooked it.

Can anyone tell me if there is a special type of washer/oil ring there?

The bolt in the grey circle is the culprit. Right of steering pump pulley wheel and lower Left side of the head on the front

Looks like one of the bolts that fasten the tensioners to the timing chain cover. There should be a flat rubber seal behind it.

My AU had the same problem. If it is them same bolt and IIRC the mechanic sealed it with some loctite.

I have ask a dumb question , but where do I get a flat washer from ?

I went to auto one and they only suggested a round o -ring , I even took the bracket with me. The o - rind they sold me , spilt before I tensioned the bolt - Arggg. I even used high temp silicon gasket sealer === no go, still bloody leaked.

The only other I can find are for water plumbing and they won't hold against the heat of the block and head.

I got a fat o ring washer from ebay - but I reckon it'll shit itself once up against the engine heat.

none of the water pump bolts actually go into the block and is exposed to oil on the other end are they? It's in so close proximity to the steering pump brackets bolts.

are they specially made? performance shop maybe?



any suggestions?

That bolt goes into the timing chain cover, not the engine block. I suspect there is supposed to be an o ring or o ring washer between the pulley tensioner and the appropriate orifice in the timing chain cover. Repco should be able to help you out, with their parts imagery on their internal parts system.

I was thinking the same thjng but , I wasn't sure cause of it's exposure to the engine. I didn't want to allow a piece of loctite to solidify in there and stuff the engine up but, I have some medium strength.

Did the mech try , oil and heat resistant medium strength- loctite?

I mean I'de change the oil soon after just in case.

Sorry if I can't be any further help but these days I tend to drop the car off at the mechanic and when I pick it up he gives me a very broad overview of what he did.

You don't need to put a heap on. You basically using it as a thread sealant. Just lightly smear the bolt thread.

Keep in mind though as these AU engines get up in the Ks they can form a lot of oil leaks particularly aroung the timing case area.
