351C Conversion in XR wagon

Hi,

I'm new to the forum, and only had a quick look through, so I'm sorry if this has already been covered, just post the link. Ive got a 67 XR Falcon wagon with a 200ci and a 4 speed manual. (single rail conversion).
I've had a decent 351 Clevo built, which I'm about to drop in, with the single rail behind it for run in. When that fails I'll put a top loader in.

I'm just wondering if anyone's done this particular conversion before, and if so what will I need to get the 351 in?? I just read somewhere that the Clevo might be too wide to fit in an XR?? Hopefully not.

Heres what I've got so far.
- chassis to engine mount adapters
- engine mounts
- bell housing
- clutch
- harmonic balancer
- pressure plate
- extractors

We pulled the 200 out but the thing that's holding us up at the moment is getting the right spigot bush, and the clutch fork.

Clevo will fit in no problem. What have you done with the front brakes and front springs?

You'll need a V8 radiator and so forth as well.

Thats what I thought, but I've had 2 people tell me I'll need to notch the strut towers. I'm assuming this is more so to allow room for air flow etc. than to actually physically fit the clevo in.

Yep, V8 radiator. Front springs are king heavy dutys, but I might need to replace the shocks. The front brakes are disc, and I'll swap the rear to disc when I put the 9inch in.

Definitely not. The engine bay is fundamentally the same as the XW-XY, you shouldn't need to modify anything, save for say the brake booster location (XR used a remote mount booster if I recall) fitting a V8 throttle rod, and a few other bits and pieces like V8 engine plates.

Are the front discs vented?

Yeah ok. No, i don't think they're vented. What would you recommend?

Well you could try and obtain the front brakes out of say, a ZD Fairlane or similar. Trouble is they might be hard to come by and may be exxy. Then again I picked up a set for an XY a year or so ago for $100 and sold them later for the same price. Another alternative is get the whole front end out of a wrecked XE or XF - spindles, calipers, rotors etc and use that, however the geometry will be slightly different compared to the XR (tie rod ends and may require the use of the later suspension arms?) and the other thing with using later hubs/brakes is that they changed the hub size in October 1975 from a 2/12 inch hub to a 2 3/4 inch hub so your current wheels won't fit.

I'm guessing the discs on your car at the moment are the factory optional solid discs with a single small PBR caliper and arent boosted - brakes for the V8 will need to be boosted. I cant tell you if a later model (i.e. XF) brake booster will fit your car. Best bet there is source an XW/XY booster and bracket. The bracket will have the mount for the clutch slave cylinder which you'll need because XD onwards had a cable clutch
