It appears the Ford Racing Brand logo has made a return?
Is this a new corporate direction or did it never really disappear?
I remember a while back a press statement rebranding "Ford Racing" as "Ford Performance".
Is "Ford Racing" to brand aftermarket?
I like it..
I like the Ford Racing brand - always have.
For around $70k, that makes the Mustang more interesting.
Do Tickford do ADR approvals for these upgrades?
We have a Tickford article in the works.
It has to have some changes made to it and unfortunately while I was aware of some developments I couldnt write about them till after this reveal.
Our version won't touch on the supercharger.
As I understand it, what Ford are showing as parts that are dealer fitted, are as if they were from the factory.
There are lawyers mixed up in this, but for Australia, Ford has to be Ford.
Let's take Tickford for example.
They are what's called a post registration company and as such, despite what Herrod has claimed in the press, they comply to a different standard that isn't as rigid as Fords.
The only way Ford Australia can compete on equal terms is if they start a new company. They wouldn't be allowed to use their own name and it goes on and on.
I won't say what I am saying here is right, not even 5% but it does make some sense from a legal perspective.
As a consequence of this, you will pay more for less bang.
I am not surprised Fords efforts have been slammed on social media.
I call it the monkey mentality. People want full cake helpings for peanuts.
I think the time has come to look at these options and come up with a forum guide or stance on where we sit that is consistent with our position with manufacturing support.
In this there is bias. When dealing with the aftermarket, there always is.
On the Ford front it's not going to represent great bang for buck.
They say that it's covered by warranty if fitted by a dealership.
The truth is, if you get the part numbers and install exactly the same equipment via any other outlet, you can expect zero issues.
It's only offered by Ford Australia because they know it's not going to be an issue.
Any Ford Performance agent, Herrod, Tickford, can fit this stuff and probably look after your car better than the average shop mechanic.
What you won't have, and this is the big one in my book, is when it comes to insurance, if these options appear in that insurance quotation form, it's an advantage.
Next up from Ford is Tickford.
Their approach to a degree mirrors Fords. They are always likely to be the most conservative in the market and the most expensive.
Less bang for buck, because the focus is more on not pushing so far that issues really do need cover.
After them comes the rest.
Harrop, Herrod, and the proverbial blanket.
This isn't a statement that ranks them, but just the way it is
Tickfords 360 and 270 engine packages are detuned.
Lots of people said they are poor value and others can do better.
They are like it for a reason.
Normally I would be all over the Ford Performance side as a supporter. At this stage, I have more questions than answers.
I look forward to reading what the market has to say about these options.
It was soft launched a while ago or so I was told early this week. Then next stage where the media get to
try is happening from now on.
I will buy this article to see how Tickford go against HSV and Holden.
I am not expecting them to win because it would be massive for these guys to be just starting out to achieve that.
The magazine I think will.be forced into the sedan v coupe story which will probably favour GM in this case.
The dark horse here is Corsa. CSV are back with a twin turbo mustang.
This Tickford supercharger kit has been in test for a while. I believe they were at the testing facility as recently as this week gone.
Thanks Ian. In terms of the aftermarket modification space, one phrase I think which conjures up my experience at least is "be careful what you ask for, you just might get it" . Many of the people that are complaining about the value proposition of Fords and even Tickford efforts may not have the perspective of the potential consequences of modifying a car when there is no, or very little accountability in place for durability testing, longevity, reliability or even safety for that matter. Of course, they can deliver greater bang for buck but what is the real cost of this in the medium to long term?
To be honest the prospect of a twin turbo mustang V8 is very exciting for me. This is a performance option I have been waiting for and expecting from Ford for a while now. I'm still surprised it hasn't materialized in the US by now under EcoBoost.

That's where I would be coming from Colville but I saw it first hand from the S550 owners group that the thought process was all about saving money and getting stuff at the cheapest option.
I am worried about the Ford model because I think it's opened up a door fir guys like Rob to undercut them on price and have the appeal of his years of fittment as a benefit.
Now Tickford are doing it differently. They are coming to you or close enough.
They just did a number of cars in tassie. When there are enough cars they are coming interstate to do the installations.
What I like about this is it's not just a mechanic doing a job. There is a brand at stake and reputation matters.
It's a greater identity. Mechanics can hide behind the dealership easier than a stand alone brand that's working through consistency models.
It's going to be interesting to see where this Tickford kite sits.
It's important from my perspective that if Ford are going to offer these modifications, especially at a price premium they appear on the option list on their website and on the invoice as part of the total vehicle purchase.
Anything less is not acceptable for the price being asked.
From a lease and Insurance perspective its vital too that these are recognised as genuine model options, not aftermarket/dealer fitment.
If Tickford are going the extra mile to meet OEM and not low volume ADRs they're wasting their time and effort if they dont scream it from the roof tops and demonstrate there's a significant point of difference.
Otherwise their fighting on price against the rest of the aftermarket with one hand tied behind their backs.
Its getting Really confusing. Bolt on aftermarket parts from a performance catalogue is not a point of difference. This supercharger kit does not meet or represent OEM. Zero development. Just another way on making a quick buck.
