Suspension recommendations

My right front strut has sprung a leak, and while it still seems to operate ok for now, it is getting noisy and making a mess of my carport.

Given the factory units have done nearly 10yrs and 160000+ km, i figured i'd give Ford a call and price up some new OEM parts. I've been impressed with their pricing on many other consumables, but it seems they still have a sense of humour when it comes to some items.

$290ea for front struts, or $720 supply and fit. Sorry Ford. Not this time.

So, in the past, i've just gone with Monroe GT gas as a reasonable replacement for stock parts. Is this still a safe bet, or is there other brands people prefer at similar pricing. Monroe struts can be had for around $260/pr and i have spring compressors so can fit them myself.

Not after stiffer or lower or anything. Monroe used to sell a complete front strut, including spring. Is that still available? A quick google search didn't come up with anything local.

So, any preferences, recommendations etc?

Either buy 2 OEM front struts or the GT Gas and fit them yourself.

Whatever you decide though do both not just 1.

of course.

i will probably do rear shocks as well, but looking to go something slightly stiffer due to towing requirements. Will likely be fitting airbags in the future also.

As mentioned above, OEM isn't an option this time around. I just can't justify paying double.

any idea on the brand KYB?

KYB have been around for yonks, maybe Mr Suspension himself Maurie can help?

I put KYB all around on my EF and they were brilliant.

I did shocks, springs and bushes and it transformed that car.

I have heard awesome things about KONI shocks as well, but not sure if they fit Australian cars.

Ok, cool. KYB are about $145ea off ebay. Not sure if they are available locally (adelaide) anywhere. Might have to do some leg work on the weekend.

haven't really looked in to it that much. i was initially against the idea, but further research has shown that as long as you aren't trying to compensate for being overloaded, they will be fine.

No, helper airbags for falcon are around $250 and can fit them myself. Just helps to lift the rear back up about 20mm once I have the van hooked up.
