So, is Ford under rating the latest Coyote or are the dyno shops reading high?
420 odd HP on the back wheels is getting close to what the FG Miamis were putting out..
Correct me if I am wrong, but isnt 7th gear 1:1 in the new 10 speed gearbox?
The film shows it being dynoed in 8 gear.
Because they are using a trans that’s brand new, there is no historical data on what it’s loss is. In order to get to fly wheel they are assuming the loss has stayed the same or got worse. And they used the maths incorrectly when working backwards. And they decided not to use SAE.
That said, it’s behaving as though it’s 500hp.
That same car pulled 117mph and 119 mph on two strip runs. It’s got it alright, it’s just a question of if it’s all engine or the improved transmission at play or a bit of both.
The logic in claiming 460 when it’s really 500 escapes me a little.
If it’s all about not upsetting GT350 owners, I would think this is a worse result. Getting 350 performance fro supposedly less engine than what it’s really got make the GT350 look worse than if they told the truth about 500.
Not sure Ford would actually do something like that. It’s a lot to hide without having boost management.
When we see manuals we will know more about the engine. If they are lower on a dyno or run consistory slower terminal, that new trans has cut loss so you are actually get more through to the wheels.
To give you an idea to make all the numbers or claims work, that trans driveline has a lose of approx 35kws or about half what we think we have had. Can a new auto be twice as efficient as say a ZF?
I doubt it.
A cars performance comes from what it puts out at the treads. If you cut your loss, you gain performance.
The faster shifting box could also being playing a part in its higher terminal speed.
No matter what, the 18 is a weapon.
Oh and yeah. They are having trouble with the speed limiter on the dyno. It seems no matter what gear they use it’s not allowing full rpm because it’s reaching the speed for that gear.
Any manual numbers recorded?
