This sort of follows on from our other discussion back at the start of the year.
My view hasn’t changed in as much that this is the wrong business model. On top of that these last 6 months haven’t been kind.
The climate is tough now. Spending large sums of money isn’t attractive.
Premcar have shifted the goal posts in terms of partnership recognition
And lastly GT500 is now known. We know it has massive cooling. We know it’s decompressed.
Everything Ford does should be about leveraging themselves, especially Ford Performance.
I see in the article it mentions Ford Performance with the type of blower kit and the Herrod association. It’s back saying Herrod is the only authorised distributor which is wrong.
It is pretty much my concern about this entire thing, that any partnership like this becomes about that partner.
Fantastic opportunity for Rob but so far tonight the comments I have received in messenger mirror what we spoke about 6 months ago.
Why partner with Herrod, why not Premcar and so on.
The details will make or break this but if I think back to our review this time last year, in all seriousness a supercharger is the last thing I would add to that engine. In fact I wonder what the take up rate is on SC kits on mustangs now.
I wonder if this is a case of being on the drawing board for so long it was too hard to just let go.
Based on the article not much seems to have changed so it’s still very much, who does what and where, how do cars get to owners and so on.
What really sets this apart?
Do people care about warranty and that side of things.
Will it wear FP branding? That’s the big ticket item there. That’s what’s missing.
Looking forward to it and seeing what has been achieved
When I hear Herrod, I instanly think aftermarket add on performance parts at a big money.
Really dont not understand why Premcar have beebnoverlooked again??
Herrod posted months ago on Facebook for a Special Dick Johnson mustang? Could this be the same mustang??
I don’t think so.
I think it’s a separate deal and that is interesting by itself.
One of the issues with Herrod is his very strong Mustang involvement. There is a plus to that obviously. It’s clearly not something Premcar bring to the table, but the negative is does it create a conflict?
My question is who wants this car?
Who is the target audience here? Who is the target consumer?
The level of suitability for Ford is in shifting new cars yeah!
That means it can’t be a retrofit BYO car at dealership level. This was one of the models being considered. Sorry rumoured.
The moment you do that, there is a very real chance dealing directly with Rob will get you a better deal and result.
So to me how does leveraging Herrod work here for Ford. What does Ford get from this.
While Premcar have no mustang cachet here, the silence and recognition of a OEM partner would be preferable if this is a Ford product. It needs to be as closely linked to FP as you can get because the consumer they need to be looking at is ex FPV.
The DJR mustang, the mustang no one knows about but yet is sold out, that’s an example of what not to do.
It also makes it irrelevant too.
There are some rumours getting around about the engine in that car. If true it’s setting Ford up a little because it’s demonstrating one path we have spoken about previously.
GT500 sets the bar on what Ford say their car with SC should be. It’s now very clear the FP model in the accessories model is a very different standard or at least not the standard we have seen Ford Aust engineering work to.
What we will be doing is looking at the optic of what the manufacturer does officially out the gate and then what’s offered through a partnership with aftermarket.
The end result is likely to be the same support and cover with warranty and that’s important if it’s Ford you are dealing with.
The last time we spoke in this we said the details matter here. Every little single detail matters.
The 18 and on mustang engine has an issue with limp mode. You don’t need Sc to find it. Adding one gets you easier access. GT500 deals with this is a particular way. 1 billion radiators, decompression and a new trans.
This has been delayed for so long now.
Are we better for Ford getting back into this officially? Yes. On this forum, it’s probably not going to get the support one might assume would come automatically given our reputation or bias for performance because in most situations we go deeper.
What does Ford need more?
A limited edition mustang with some linking to racing here that can be linked with the Ford Performance brand costing no more than 75k or a Sc product with aftermarket heritage costing 100k plus?
If when the details are released they create a situation where I actually have to think about this, I will mark them highly.
