I still really like the appearance of the latest Mondeo. Drove well too. Shitty name didn’t help.
I don’t think Ford did enough to make this car relevant in Australia. Its was lagging behind the market leaders in that segment the moment it was launched here. Unfortunately a common practice for many European Ford vehicles sold in Australia.

I'd say Mondeo is gone globally anyway.
I agree with this 100%. Ford have never found a method of sparking interest in cars outside Falcon and Ranger. This is despite the cars being attractive, well apointed, and dynamically excellent. The amount of Ford vehicles I have driven that I have enjoyed driving, yet left wondering why more have not been sold has been numerous. Especially around and since the end of Falcon. Maybe we start a thread about how to solve this?
I don't think you could solve it really. You'd have to throw millions into advertising and even racing it (if that still has any impact) but I don't think it'd work. Why? Well it's in a category where there are a lot of options and those options have a far better reputation built over long long periods. Most people in that market if they can afford it they'd buy bmw, merc and if they can't there's the Asian brands with Toyota being the most likely spot they'd land for no other reason then it just being Toyota. So how much do u spend to get a return on investment? It's a strange situation spend millions to design build a car and yet follow it up with little to no advertising here in oz but maybe that's the plan just to move excess euro stock here a sell what they sell. The old saying out of sight out of mind, if people don't know there's another option they are unlikely to look at it.
I have no doubt it's a nice car and have considered it for my mother as it's bigger then her corolla and now would be a good time to buy as prices should drop.
But as the market continues to move to small, medium and large suv's it's likely to cause a few deaths in this category mondeo is in. The commo in my eyes was no big surprise as major mistakes were made.
Goes to show how Falcon had no hope, even globally.
I see a lot of what I am guess is current model Camry so sedans of some configurations must still be selling but just not in volume.
Would be interested to know if Camry volume has also shrunk or if police and rentals are keeping it going as well.
I know locally, the police have moved to Camry or at least have some
I think Falcon was a basketcase, however the crying shame out of the Falcon story is that Territory never went truly global. If they could have inserted Territory into Europe, with a newer diesel, and a 4 cylinder Ecoboost engine, they may have had a case to keep going.
Territory was as good as the initial BMW X5 - if Ford could have delayed the launch 12 months so the ZF was the standard box, it would have been even better. It would have had a better time if the diesel was launched when originally planned as well...
Hindsight is awesome though.
Camry Hybrid all taxi's here now. Large enough to carry to 5 people and their luggage, but runs on a smell of an oily rag. Nice car, but not too flash suits fleets. Toyota capitalized on the fleet market. If I recall, Ford went in the totally opposite direction with Falcon. So did Commodore. They focused on private buyers. That worked out well....
