Tim Cindric has confirmed that Supercars champion Scott McLaughlin’s test at Sebring yesterday was more than just a novelty one-off and that the team is investigating the possibilities of the 26-year-old making his IndyCar race debut this season.

Well going by what footage they should I would say no to the entire season. I'd say yes to a few races only because just didn't think he was pushing hard enough. Early braking, corner speed not high enough. Just think the learning curve is pretty steep n would require far more time behind the wheel n in traffic before you'd let him drive for a full season. It's a lot of money just to see how'd he'd go. If he logs a lot more practice behind the wheel over the this year then ear mark 2021 for his debut. Just don't think they'd just yank Scott out of sc just over a mth before start of the season. It'd be to much to run in both series full-time.
Good on him, but for selfish reasons I hope he stays.
He was a second off the pace, given that's his first time in an open wheeler and the first time Penske have run a car to the new rules it wasnt a bad effort...Quote:

I like this idea as it makes sense from a progression point of view. Scott has achieved all of the boxes put in front of him so he should embrace the opportunities presented to him. After the rubbish of last year there are not many reasons for him to stay. Supercars is shooting itself continuously in the foot so why stay in a format that's future is clouded. He has nothing to lose with going to the US. If all doesn't go to plan Penske will bring him back over hear. From all accounts Scott's performance both and off the track will see him stay with Penske as long as they both see merit.
The article tends to suggest Scott can only race if he commits to a certain level of races, i'd think IndyLites would be the first step at non clashing rounds this year and a full time tilt next year.
It would be equally important for Car 17 to for-fill its obligations for the entire season too given their sponsorship relationships.

The problem with nascar is they tend to say "well u maybe fast n have titles is oz but here that means nothing so off to the truck series n don't even think of driving a nascar for 2 to 3yrs"
Seems they don't like ya jumping straight in the main game over there, gotta earn ya bones.
If he ran in no lower then 2nd tier of nascar then it'd be worth it but it's still a yr before they let ya play with big boys.
So kinda agree indycar could be right path or driving the Honda prototype (is that what there called) around road courses. But kinda lacks the prestige of indy

Well I ethink with that news djrtp will be looking for a new driver for next years season. I think even if he puts in the wall at first turn it's a sure thing he's off to indy car.
