Ford US to unleash 559kW V8 ute in 2021

The new F-150 Raptor is set to have the GT500 engine, while the coming Ranger version is set to adopt V6 turbo performance.

Targeting the Trump supporters no doubt.

People will get excited about any large pickup truck that does 0 to 60 mph in 4 seconds. It the RAM achieved that using electric motors and it was affordable not too many would-be complaining,

Maybe, maybe not, getting there in 4 seconds is only half of it, the noise, the theatre of a V8 is the other half, and no ev gives that

That already exists. Well, it can be ordered. The dual-motor Cybertruck is advertised with a 0-100 4.5 seconds, the Tri-Motor 2.9 0-100 so that benchmark has already been ticked off. Is it desired? There are reportedly 600,000 orders placed and a 3-year wait to get one. SO there is certainly some acceptance. Plus the Tri-motor version has a range of 800km. And whilst the Cybertruck isn't cheap, its significantly US$20,000 cheaper than the RAM TRX. Cybertruck also won't have a 30l/100 fuel bill of it's rivals.

But yes it lacks the noise and the theatre of the TRX or Raptor. I could learn to deal with that.

But that fact it looks like a cross between a smashed crab and a Tonka means I'm out.

Lol, yeap. It more an issue with its overall appearance for me too. Its a shocker but there is no mistaking it I guess. I'd imagine that is what Elon Musk would have wanted.

As for missing the sound and theatre of blown V8 Andrew, your preaching to the converted, obviously. It's a big part of the experience as you said.
They sure do like a drink, however. I'm personally excited by the prospect of having a vehicle with similar to better 'performance' without the need to feed it fossil fuels and oils.

There is no replacement for the V8 but it is what it is. My goal is to make sure I always have access to a V8 or two for the very reasons you mentioned.

For the daily commute, a performance-oriented EV would do me just fine.

That Elon truck is hideous and apart from never ever passing pedestrian safety here or Europe will only sell in limited numbers, and i suspect they know that and have limited production projections based on that.

That thing is more about disrupting the market than actually selling numbers.
