2022 last Supercar season

Well before we know it March '22 is upon us and the season commences.......

Those of you paying more attention to load up 22 livery releases please do.

I'm planning on attending more events this season thankfully being opened up more and bit more used to our covid environment.

Obviously will be at the 1st SMP
Tassie as much as I'd love getting there my intinerary doesn't work.
Have bookings for Albert Park/F1 so thats locked in.
Next target will be Winton followed by Darwin fingers crossed < never been to a round there so hopefully make it.
The remainder will try to get to most barring NZ.

Really hoping BRT step up that bit more this season but will not be easy, now they really have to fend for themsleves re Pit Bay......
Rest of our Ford teams as well.

Labor party in sa have an election promise to bring back the Adelaide 500 if elected. Liberals, state we can get our fix at the bend.
Should it come back?
If it comes back it'd be next year when gen 3 hit the track, starting a new era of Ford v Gm (not that that's any different)
Haven't really missed it tbh.
I think it potentially could be a good thing for hospitality sector which is suffering like in every state.
I think you'd have to watch attendance all this season to see if interest is there n numbers are up. Which they might be due to lock downs. But will there be a vaccination requirement for all attendance at all races? N will this hurt numbers?
So with all that would it be worth the expense of putting the adl 500 back on knowing there's a huge risk of losing a bundle.

In the big picture politically what we've all been going through not sure this kind of feel good annoucement is whats really needed in todays world.
Isn't there more important things SA needs.
In saying that obviously the A500 ticked the box's being the season opener for so many years coming from a enthusiasts pov.
Don't think the gen public really give a toss.
Hasn't the crowds been in decline for years due to SC/Seamer turning the daily schedules into a snooze fest.
Hard to judge looking ahead this seasons crowd average, I don't expect crowds to jump UP alot through this season under the current circumstances but I could be wrong.

There's a certain irony in that the somewhat bland and droopy look of the road-going Opel-based Commodore looks good proportionally as a Supercar, while the fantastic-looking Mustang road car looks at odds as a Supercar.

Of course, we all know why (thanks Supercars). This underlying issue is just brought back into focus when a major sponsor switches manufacturers.

Mind you I didn't mind the livery on the Mustang but they have done a better job one in design and yes the opel looks like the road car far better than our abortion thanks to them all.

On adl500 I believe ticket sales were down 50k over that last race weekend. Which is pretty significant but also worrying, if it's running that close to the make or break margin that it can't handle 50k down turn over 4 days.
I know I harp on about it but it comes back to that out of sight out of mind. Fta coverage had a lot to do with interest in the sport. Look at any sport on fox/kayo has it actually grown despite what they say. I'd say no, Especially with crowd attendance, the only exception would be afl.
They held last adl500 on top of other events to which with everything going burns a hole in ya pocket pretty quickly.
Sc messing with mustang build n then hampering it during the season really grew anti sentiment for fans n people just grew tired of them.then to return to red bull dominance again frustrated fans. Look it'll probably survive only because it's our top category but it's hanging by a thread.
I hope this year brings a better contest n exciting racing, not manufactured racing by soft compound tyres to get a different winner.
A new CEO would help, give anything to bring Tony back.
I'll keep an eye on it but probably won't watch any races as I can spend 30 sec view results online n move on.

The 500 was run terribly by Seamers SC reign.
Didn't help with all the rules changes etc to Ford teams mind you the Ford supporters are out numbered by the Opel lovers by how much ? 3 to 1 ? more ?
So I don't think rules influence people not attending its more so the daily "show" imo.
SC watered down on supports like mad, the stadium trucks are a buzz first off but year after year its the same same and so Merican its not us.
Consumers needs bang for buck, the SC formats have been dragged out to fill in the gaps where supports used to entertain.
They expected people to keep spending around the Merch tents more, people can afford only so much in the big picture.
How many practices do we want to see, the day drags on and on.
Terrible programming, people had enough.
Sports not on FTA is a given now for years TBH.
Should be used to it.
Bathurst if anything should always be on FTA for thats history as was Saandown, you hardly saw any rounds before Cochrane for eg.
Cochrane as good as he was gaining the exposure overall for the "show" is one who helped turning "racing" into a show.
The Homebush's/concerts, trying to get it OS more, it was just about the money and he did very well at that as we know sold it for a motza thats all he was about, other pieces of the puzzle of the games decline imo.
Look after your backyard and core supporters first, not.
Making it difficult for other OE brands participating was ludricous, look where its ended up now.

Can you think of any other sport that has ruined its DNA/formats/ruling as bad as our beloved racing.

I think that's why motor gp is good to watch. No messing with format, good close racing, exciting to watch. I expect it to be even more competitive this season. It comes down to the rider n how hard they push. Choices they make on compound before the race n how they manage that.
Yep people can only afford so much across the board.
Bathurst is good but even that's boring at times. At this point even NASCAR could be more interesting to watch.
Getting gen 3 might be what it needs but even then camaro isn't sold here under a manufacturer but it's all the red side have. More manufacturers would be good as long as they aren't butchered versions.
Adl 500 will only be missed by a few.
What do ya do when ya product isn't selling anymore? rely on ya tv deal.
I'm use to no fta but it's more about maintaining that support/fans base that got ya this far. If ya not growing ya fan base or engaging the next generation ya in trouble.

Gen 3 cars are looking good, but also agree with the sentiment from everyone regarding Camaro. Isn't sold here and not sure as to whether a new model has been confirmed so are we racing another dead duck GM? The challenge is that if you are not racing cars that are relevant, then it has to be a good show. The old fan base misses the Ford/Holden rivalry, and I don't think that the category has done enough to grab new fans. Haven't thought of a solution as I no longer have a huge interest in the category. Will watch for DJR cars and see how Will Brown goes. My racing time is now focused on Indy cars and WRC (which I have found my love for again).
