This is an important car for Ford Australia. Personally I don’t support electric on the premise of saving the planet. We aren’t there yet. But they do stack up on their own as legitimate purchases in their own right and that I believe is the real key to success.
I’m a bit puzzled as to why this has taken so long but I guess better late than never.
But well done to all in getting this over the line.
Pricing will be key. Model Y is cheap for what it offers and the charging network.
They look awesome in person. Better than I thought.

EV sales and interest in Australia is strong. The interest (preorders) in the Mach E is particularly strong and will be reported in the media soon. I think some people will be shocked at how strong.
Whether you subscribe to their EV's environmental advantages or not, as a product in their own right they make for an extremely compelling offering if your usage circumstances align.
For me personally, they have but they are not (yet) the solution for everyone.

Ford is now playing catch up and it's going to hurt profits for a while. They are throwing the bathroom sink at it which is reflected in their financials.
Will they get there? I think so with a more concentrated focus. Telsa's generally are viewed as a niche brand, while brands like Mustang, Explorer, Transit etc appear more relatable to the 'average' consumer and I think this will reflect in demand and sales numbers. I think the pre-order interest in Mach E (in Australia) will demonstrate this.
For me it’s the words from Colville speaking about stacking up in their own right. I think they can do that now and will continue to be better into the future.
The political side of this has occurred largely without meaningful consultation with the manufacturers. By this I mean dates have been set more so to set the stage of action over actually coming to be. It wont surprise me if some of these dates aren’t pushed back. Head of Volvo spoke recently about who EV progression can’t come at the expense of something better. It’s really just now that companies are starting to get serious about what the future might be. I sincerely hope that doesn’t come at the cost of completely different requirements for consumers.
Last month EV sales were 18% I think I read.
Now that’s its coming here, how do we feel about the mustang brand being used? Any different or unchanged from launch?
I was uncomfortable with the use the name initially. However I do think the Mustang brand has an ability to attract buyers that may otherwise not consider buying a Ford. My perception is that this appears to the happening with Mach E across the globe. Given its importance it was probably a smart move.
I tend to refer to it as a Mach E.
