No EV Mustang in the next 10 years!!!!????

A fully electric Mustang coupe isn’t coming anytime soon, but Ford’s CEO has left the door open for a hybrid to join the pony car range.

Speaking with Bloomberg in regards to a potential electric Mustang coupe, Ford CEO Jim Farley said “I don’t know about 10 years from now, but for the 10 years we’re in now, a partial electrification is the perfect solution for [high-performance] customers.”

“So when you say: Could it be a fully electric Mustang coupe? Nah, probably not. But could there be a partially electrified Mustang coupe—and it be world-class? Yeah.”

I suspect an Eco boost 4-cyl hybrid shared with Ranger is most likely. That will no doubt be fast but I don't see this offering the desired 'emotional driving experience' he alludes to.

I personally would rather see a dual-motor, all-paw EV variant that will ultimately be superior in every way. To get something similar you have to spend Audi's e-Tron GT or Porsche Tycan money so it's a shame really. The only hybrid that remotely interests me would be a V8, otherwise, what's the point if protecting the 'emotional driving experience' of the Mustang coupe if that is the goal?

Given the F1 partnership with Red Bull Powertrains, I'm not sure you could rule anything out in the future.

There's serious potential that what we have seen with S650 and GTD so far is Ford just starting to clear its throat

If the growing involvement in F1 and soon to be released GT3 based GTD are anything to go by For'd interest in Supercars is in deep shit.

Ford certainly appears to have gotten on top of the Mustangs in the NASCAR series now, winning the last 4 races or so

The GT3 based GTD is a very bold statement of intent. As with F1. They are lining up the ducks for an all-out assault on major motorsport categories around the world.

Australia is a very small market. This may have bought Supercars some time to fix things with the G3 Mustang but I imagine by now the relationship with Supercars is being tested. Seeing good drivers and potential even teams leave the Blue Oval end of the year has a knock-on effect and any opportunity to win the driver, team, or manufacture Champion in 2023 is all but gone.

Yet, the head of Supercars seems to think all the difficulties have all been worth the cost, and sighting fan engagement is up. Maybe a larger majority of supporters actually prefer the Camaro to be dominating and the sport is commercially more desirable this way. That would be a very bitter pill to swallow if it was supported by data.

NASCAR is 100% Driver/setup. They have a silhouette shape that all teams use.

Any improvement is totally on team/driver.

The attitude of Supercars management to how they've not only managed parity and the treatment of the only manufacturer investing in the sport but Gen3 itself is staggering....

They are backslapping in their echo chamber of affirmation, while everyone laughs at them.

When most general volume OE's are going EV more and more it seems the brands with hipo ICE halo models are reluctant burning or scaring off their Enthusiast customer base.
Mustang as we know has been over 50yrs V8 yanky pedigree, thats some volume that its survived and never been out of production in the US unlike many of their opponents.
Though the domino has to fall sooner or later and I can't see it being 10yrs before a Pony EV as much as I'd like that to be.

I have been venturing on the Macan USA forums since ownership and the Taycan has had alot of battery issues amongst other QC issues......(talking VAG the same has applied with Golf EV's)
The other point is like rusted on Mustang owners Porsche ones alot come from the devoted 911 that are hardly DD therefore Macan/Cayenne have been the DD go to for many owners (having 1/2 even 3 Porsche's in their fleet) sticking by the sheer DNA pedigree of the marquee.
Porsche's annoucement sometime ago Macan after '24 will be EV has not gone down well at all amongst the USA devotees.
Sure there is a small % going forward BUT the majority are going no way and will look elsewhere whats on offer.
This is a huge pickle for Porsche for Macan/Cayenne are their volume product.
Will be interesting whats to occur in the future - especially for some low volume performance brands.
