Did anyone else read in the paper on the weekend what out wonderful Tasmanian State Government are thinking of implementing
A dusk to dawn speed limit of 60 km/h on rural roads
They believe by doing this it will reduce road kill by 75% to 80%
Sorry but I am blown away, yeah I dont want road kill, but with the way its going, soon it will be quicker to walk than drive
Well you did vote for the morons in charge.
Fight it immediately. Contact you local member and tell him face to face that if this goes ahead you will personally spend as much money as you can making sure that somebody else is the local member after the election.
Tell him you don't care who just not him because as far as you are concerned it is PERSONAL.
Then get anyone you know in other electorates to do the same. They all go to water when they can't hide behind "the party".
Typical rubbish that some non thinking person has come up with....any elected member who contemplates this as a viable option would lose their seat pronto.
Has this had any effect elsewhere in the world?
I love how this conjecture put out there by random local governments try's to gain a following by suggesting inflated figures of lower death rates etc.
I was driving home last week at about 1am, on a motorway mind you, not a rural road, and anything lower than about 80km/h was very tiring and laborious. 60km/h on a rural road with a typical speed limit of what, 80 or 100km/h will cause a fatigue sensation to sky rocket.
I agree, driving at 60 km/h will bring both boredom and fatigue, which will make a accident considerably more likely
but i guess that is ok as wildlife isnt killed
Well if concentration is down, how will your reaction time be effected if you highly fatigued as a result of lower limits? Increased obviously.
Instead of reprinting all the signs and special legislation etc etc etc that goes into changing speed limits, how 'bout a cost effective and, wait for it, pragmatic idea?
Put power polls up with ropes across the roads, small tunnels under the roads and bigger tunnels less often under the roads for the bigger animals that can't use the two previous options. It happens else where in the country.
our govt is basically broke
can not afford to do tunnels etc
this way they get a revenue boost too, speeding fines

Haha all good, sarcasm is needed when talking politics/governments/brilliant plans of action.
I see your point and would suggest that the TAS government is taking a soft way out, but no one will ever support the plan anyway.
Remember the Greens have the balance of power in Tasmania
