As for the way DR was treated the last few years, most of that was his own doing

Had a funny discussion with the T8 merchandising guys - as some know T8/RB have a merchandising tent that these guys told me looking ahead with Supercars they have concerns on PR items/sales in the future.
Especially 2019 on.
They have locked themselves up for another 3yrs at Bathurst and without C Lowndes they would be broke lol....
As we know Wingecup ain't no fav with the punters but Giz isn't that much as well - they confirmed this to me during Saturday.
Hence their concerns - CL/Caltex gear etc must be about 60% of sales.
None would know but I tell you why I saw lots of RB gear around - Supercheap must have bought heaps of old stock from RB, they were doing run out sale of tshirts/hoodies etc from Thursday, punters buy anything thats cheap.....
Saying that, 2nd biggest Bathurst crowd I'm led to believe.
Supercheap sales were HUGE. 6, 0 figures fellas, so much crap these people buy what a captive market.
Pretty good marketers imo - Chaz is a huge winner for them on the racing side might I add.
So for the first time there was a smaller dedicated DJ stand selling his own apparel etcetc....
Great initiative and why not - cash in.
Moffat Racing items was evident as well due to the 40yrs.
Why can't these people who look into having product available of these top ol drivers have more than just average kind of styles/designs ??????
Look at Nismo promo gear you people, some of their less is more designs look pretty darn good.
So its Mustangs instead of Falcons even more on the marketing side.

and ofcourse PRA had 3, one black in front of PRA merchandising tent and those 2 '77 imposter's lol and incl a blue Ranger.

It was a disappointing result but we have seen it too many times at this place. Often the best car doesn’t win and those last 20 laps can be killers.
Djr pulled a master stroke changing brake pad material either at Sandown or before it. It allowed them to get the car sorted and the drivers used to them before Bathurst.
Pra, I realise they lost their test day but I think as the team involved with the rotor failure last year and the extended testing probably should have been awake to this one.
That said the drivers don’t like the pad they had to race on so it’s a difficult thing.
When the weather was like it was it’s a lesser instance of the one that got away.
Ours to lose is a lesser statement under those conditions and the damage was limited in the end.
So going in we had discussion on co drivers.
Such a hard race to determine co driver performance.
Canto was the fastest co driver in the dry, but out in the race struggled. He wasn’t alone though as the cars seemed to come and go on speed as conditions changed.
Indeed the cars all seemed very sensitive to changing conditions with even the 888 team reporting it was fast at times then disappeared.
By contrast Stanaway and Jacobson were outstanding.
That said no codriver cost their lead driver the race win.
My biggest losers were Chaz and Giz.
Giz is just a bloody idiot. The man doesn’t have a brain in his head. If you were his team boss you would take him out back and kick his head clean off. He is just a simpleton and he cost his team the win. He had that.
Just a disgusting display of stupidity.
Chaz, mistake at the chase, then causing the contact that damaged the 6.
Two penalties for the 55 for the day but yet it was this last contact resulting in a drive through that ended his chance.
When the main championship contenders have bad luck with engines, you have to maximise and Chaz failed to,do that.
That’s probably his championship there given he was on for a podium if not the win.
Djr dropped the ball not putting and fixing the engine with so much race left.
I stuglle to understand how it took so long to know what was wrong. So much guessing, when stopping on track gave the DNA and no points. You have to finish as the 88 did. Valuable points for Jamie that could prove defining.
Agree, Giz has proven even more the idiot he is - ironically different brain farts at the death like his team mate costing a likely win as in the past.
Chaz's errors proves he has yet to mature but I have high hopes for him in the future.
Waters/Stanaway combo impressed me much - especially in the wet - their times were brilliant under the circumstances and faster than the known wet runner Giz.
We need to hold onto these 2 boys - I really thought in the afternoon I was going to see a remarkable double win, real shame.
Frosty/Canto, besides their hurdles were hanging in there well and as had been mentioned late in the race in 6-or 7th the race lead was coming to them but for Frostys error ending in the wall.
Even though DJR should have could have with SMac I was so pleased PRA's cars were circulating so well but then one by one when it counts staying out there and avoiding trouble we fell.
I know most would say DJR/Fab consolidated gaining the podium points But I just can't help to think its THE race to win, go for it but thats me whereas most would say good call - well I say bugga that, winners are grinners especially at the Mountain.
I'd sooner see someone having a real go for broke (whats the difference of the heart break as we feel right now), I admire that more than picking up points for the overall Championship for no matter what Bathurst is still the King to WIN.
This is premature to say but think I rate Stanaway higher than Cam? Cam is good but Stanaway has just seemed to come out of the box swinging.
I read Tim at PRA being upset about the delayed penalty with Chaz, but I think he is just understandably frustrated in general to see so much promise turn to shit in the final stages. Strategy and bad driver judgement gave them the result they got. Best to own it without excuses so you can maximize the learning.
With all the lead contenters falling away I beleive Chaz could have had one hand on the championship trophy. But 'it is what it is' as they say. They gave it there best but it wasnt enough this time. Bring on the next round as its obvious PRA are coming. If winning the championship isnt possible I want them take second place away from Triple 8.
Stanaway is a pretty accomplished driver. I think he'll be in the main game soon enough. Showed he can steer.Quote:
