Nissan to join v8 supercar!

2013 could be interesting. will they get the parity formula right straight off the bat? in the existing series, some circuits seem to suit one make better than the other just by virtue of the different shapes/characteristics of each. what if a new player meets all the parity regulations, but by virtue of its shape or something, ends up perfoming better at bathurst of all places. i would hear the uproar from here. they'll have to trim the undertray before the race!

chances are, the cars will all be pretty similar given it will be essentially a one make series, but there's always a bit of a learning curve.

You can bet one thing, "IF" one make shows an advantage the other brand teams in the series will bitch their arses off screaming for a parity review..!!!

like when ford allegedly had an advantage when ve was released? top speed advantage or some rot.

this strict full parity formula was something i thought would keep other manufacturers away, after all, whats in it for them? guess i was wrong. its all exposure i guess, and with the ratings v8sc pull, its pretty good exposure too.

It will be even tighter under COTF.... Everyone cheering for another brand needs to understand what they're getting... another badge to support.

Im not in any way against it either, id hate to see things revert to the abysmal one sided failure that was Group A....

So what is your precedent for Holden and Ford spitting the dummy should someone like Nissan win a high profile race by about 100000 laps? :)

whats people's thoughts on the popularity of the sport come 2013. will it grow, or will the pie stay the same size and just get cut into more pieces? most people that like nissans, do so because of the turbo tech mostly. can't see too many more fans resulting from them joining, but i was wrong once before.

Well lets see, my interpretation of COTF is this
The frame/ chasis / cage / suspension / brakes /gearbox/ diff is 100% identical no matter what the car is
You bolt either the Ford / Holden / Nissan / Chrysler body panels on the base platform
Almost to the extent your car could be a Ford one meeting, then change body panels for the next meeting, and have a Nissan racing, but it is the same car as previous round.
Engines are the only difference, the Ford and Chev motors are approved, and could be used under any body paneled car. OR they could use their own engine, as long as it met the specs
Engine management is a fixed control, supplied by V8 Supercars
This is purely a shiloette series, even the size of the Ford and Holden are not relevant to their road going cars. No panel or door from a road going vehicle will fit a V8 Supercar

To the best of my understanding that is exactly what the series will be. I think the "show" is what will keep it popular, intense battles with 1/1000ths between cars, every car still on the lead lap, if it can entertain traditionally non motorsport people it will grow in popularity, if it relies on brand tribalism as its primary drawcard it could wither...

Well considering most Holden fan's think that the HRT/888 racecar is far superior then any Ford racecar and demolishes them on the track so they are so good, Nissan fan's will more then liekly be the same, I can hear it now..
Our Turbo....blow of valved..... swwsshhhhhh..swsshhhhhh racecar kill's your Ford on the race track..blah, blah...after one win, when in reality these bogan's won't even know what the racecar's actually run under the bonnet.
