The Future of our Premier Motorsport series.

When they say market relevance I think what referring to is cars and more importantly brands of cars that are relatable to the supporters and are perceived to be obtainable in one form or another. The problem with the Merc's was the car they were modeled from (E63) was unobtainable to the majority. The problem with the Nissan was the brand and car wasn't of interest or desirable to the supporters. Scott Mc success managed to somewhat elevate the Volvo's desirability amongst supporters but still, it was a long shot.

You just have to look at the Touring car masters to see relatable, obtainable model cars are a huge hit, even if the race going versions are purpose-built. I can literally only think of one or two model cars that will keep this series alive under the current format and that's a Camaro and maybe a Dodge HellCat. Ford vs Chev vs Dodge. Maybe Toyota as long as its a hero/halo model (Supra) They all don't have to be sold here from the factory the Mustang, just obtainable in one form or another even is that converted by specialty niche company.

Ford/Chev/Dodge/and I'll throw in TOY company as well but like MB not wanting to be associated though a Lexus.
Supra yes but that recent model is small.
TBH we keep changing faster now than ever before.
People would jump on board with more brands - red and blue is not as it was, SC need to change their marketing linage.
They need to show open doors so as apart from COTF3 changes brands are welcome.
I know it will suit coupe/2door styles so hopefully some other teams convince other brands - gain the ip whatever.

Market relevance is going to be a challenge. Are you working on market relevance to what SC's have created now or on what they are hoping to create to keep the sport alive? SC's have been like Holden and previously Ford. They found a good formula, Red versus Blue. It made them good money. They flogged it within an inch of its life and never saw or acknowledged the future that was coming. Sound familiar? Now that change has arrived they are stuck with a market base that they have created and I am not sure how keen they are to see change.

Last year with the Mustang was SC's chance to move forward. Show that they could welcome another model to the competition and work through a season professionally. Instead they completely screwed it up and probably pushed most prospective customers away.

So what is the solution? I honestly don't know. Ford have the Mustang. GM maybe Camaro...maybe at best. Can't see T8 doing it off their own back. Dane is too used to handouts from Holden. That well is dry. Maybe BMW to WAU? Makes sense with Chaz but how do you market that? To bring in other makes SC's will have to change how they market the series and figure out how they are going to bring in the next generation of fans. Fans that will look past red and blue...or just blue now. Can you picture AMG, BMW, or Volvo fans rocking up to Bathurst etc putting up with stubby throwing ex Holden fans? I know that not all fans are like this but that is some of the things that SC's are going to have to contend with.

So far they have shown that they can't even handle a 2 make series. How the hell they plan to move forward is anyone's guess.

Supercars Primarily needs to understand why it exists and what it wants to be.

Is it entertainment? Or is it a conduit for manufacturers to showcase product?

Can it successfully be both? Or does one need to be the primary purpose?

The biggest problem with Supercars, is that they are no longer showcasing the two top selling vehicles in the country.

Twenty Years Ago, Falcon and Commodore were at the top of the sales charts, and they were reflected in the V8 Series. Both had V8 Hero Cars (SS/HSV, and XR8/T Series).

Fast forward to today. One company has decided making cars is too hard and is closing down completely. The other's biggest selling vehicle is a jacked up ute that can only be had in Diesel (slow, slower, and really slow)...

What is there to get people engaged in this series - racing a "Mustang" and a "Commodore" (I need two sets of quotation marks for that) is not what people are either buying, or supporting. Combine into that a commentary team that desperately needs a broom through it, and it makes for a sport that is tough to watch, even for a lapsed fan like me.

Well Ryan lied latter in the tv interview when asked about going to not race a Holden. He put it solely on speedcafe making things up

Super utes has failed dismally, it's not just about racing the cars that people are buying

Even the V8 version of superutes has failed, not even making the grid, with all rounds in 2020 cancelled. They say they will be there in 2021, but I doubt it, and will certainly struggle to get acceptance

Regardless of all the talk the one thing that needs to be clear is "the direction"
I know it's early days but the longer they take to come up with a clear direction the less chance of seeing anyone different on the track next season.
They have to show not only clear direction for next season but the next 5 yrs at least otherwise what is the point in other makes or just teams spending huge amounts of money to build n develop a car if the future is 12mth long.I feel Ford, chev, bmw, Audi maybe merc. The 3 euros all have racing heritage they could build on. Audi probably the biggest in terms of fan base. Not sure merc fans would bother being that they have an f1 team winning everything but the cotf3 might be more beneficial then the last attempt.
Sc has been through some shit in the past with bigger changes then it faces at the moment so I think it will come out the other end of this but what it would look like who knows. I think if sc want teams to take on different brands they have to back it up with solid support and one thing that would have to change is TV coverage, it has to be back on fta because as I've repeated over n over again "out of sight out of mind" if u want to build fan base u have to make accessible. Another worry is crowd numbers, hopefully Adelaide was just a blip on the radar, change of date, clashing with fringe, bushfires
They totally effed up the super utes every man n their dog could of told them how to do it better I think good example when u try to keep things relevant and not give the public what they really wanted, v8 lowered duel cabs or even something close to nascar trucks. All makes have a single cab option which should of been the first decision made.
