I believe, and I could be wrong here that something closer to Anzac Day is what is required.

If my memory serves me, this is primary school stuff. The first fleet didn’t land where they were meant to and ended up in a race with another fleet from another nation to get ashore and claim the land.

That’s what the 26th was about. I do not recall if there was any contact with natives on this day. The intention was to beat the other country not start a war with the natives.

I’m sure the British must have settled other lands. Does anyone know if attempted genocide occurred there?

I keep deferring to what I believe to be the facts that in this date no conflict occurred and as such on that day the future was not scripted one way or the other.

Now we are heading towards facts, not symbolism not sentimentally but what actually did happen or I guess more importantly what do indigenous people believe happened.

First fleet come on land, find the first native they see and execute him or her to set an example.

If this occurred on this date, there isn’t an Australian alive now looking to celebrate that occasion. It happened or not as was events and treatments of the day back then, but we would never celebrate such an act.

You have activists that claim genocide started on this date and that’s their motive for a change.

It spans a very long time, all over the country, broken down to each state.

This could not possible be 100% accurate but it’s clear they have tried.

The first recorded conflict seems to be NSWs July 1790.

It starts with the governor issuing guns and land to convicts who go claim what they have been given. You can guess the rest.

From what I know the first landing didn't happen on the 26th but very close to it. The 26th was the official ceremony of flag raising n English claiming the land. I don't believe there was any such race with another nation n not even sure how the French got mixed up in it. As for what happened on the day, there was no fighting or genocide that took place.
Look to deny what happened on the 26th is to ignore the facts n truth of our history regardless of whether u like it or not. For FNP is was a time that would change their world forever n they can't deny it didn't happen. As for the English is was just another piece of claimed land for the empire. Either way can't sweep it under the rug. An we should keep the date as a reminder to what happened n fnp should also keep it, if only to say we know what u did n we remember. Unfortunately the view most euros had of native tribes was that they were savages and didn't know any better so therefore they were regarded as less then human and the land was free to take. Hell at some point even Vikings were regarded as savagers according to the English. This can be because tribes didn't follow Christian beliefs, the Spanish did the same thing, roamed around the world destroying fnp for gold n lack of Christian faith. Peru is one such place that was devastated because of Spanish, unfortunately small pox was the main destroyer there.

There's nothing nice about it. History is not full of nice stories and it depends on what side u are born into as to your view on it. But we should all remember we are one race, the human race and respect and tolerance should come first.
We are taught to hate someone based on obvious differences(only if we listen to other haters) we are all born into this world with no choice on what we look like so hating someone for different coloured skin is just fucking stupid. We didn't get a check list to tick before we were born.

The question I have is the objection to the day or the occasion, whatever that is?

If the assertion is that coming ashore is the start of genocide, that can only be true if harm occurs through policy of the country taking the land or a record of conflict from the get go that demonstrates intention to extinguish native population.

This is where activists can screw things up.

If it’s not about genocide but theft of land, that’s different. But you can’t escape that. You just can’t celebrate it if it’s an issue for those descendants.

But interestingly, abolishing, my position is now what was mentioned as well as changing the date.

But as I've said we weren't there, none of the people alive today were. N shit gets mixed up over time n some ignore the facts depending on their stance. In most cases history is written by those who won eg more powerful (battle not necessary) natives weren't really known for writing things down n just because they say this is what happened doesn't make it true. As far as I know there is no conclusive evidence of fnp being here for 60k yrs, sometimes it's more, sometimes it's less. Regardless of the actual number they were here first. I believe Neanderthals were still Europe 60000 yrs ago. We probably all did the Chinese whispers at school what was said at start isn't always what u get at the end. I think at this point the only thing to agree on is if we celebrate it or not. Not would be my vote but I'm open to an anzac type of day.

That’s the first video I have seen where there is any mention of abolishing. So it must be up as one of the options moving forward

A lot don't like him, and he can be a pest at times, but he certainly shows these protests in a different light.
