just to update this a little, i did actually end up selling the one i bought and buying the cosmoblaze one in the link in post#58. its a much better quality product in terms of materials used and how it looks and feels and lights up a bit more road.
i just returned from a 6000km road trip to bris and back and the light bar worked an absolute treat. i drove through the night on the way up and any wildlife within 10-15m of the roadside was easily spotted a good few hundred metres up the road. given the mount is only attached to the bumper, there was a little bit of vibration on rough roads, but only really evident at the very front edge where the light hits the road, so not really in your field of vision. its such a big broad beam of light that you can't notice any vibration when looking forward.
even though high beams are very good on FG, when you turn the lightbar off, they appear very much like tunnel vision, such is their rather narrow spread by comparison. for the fairly small outlay (about $400 all up) this was well worth it for the occasional country trip. if you are a regular night driver, this would still do the job very well, but i would probably spend a bit more money on a better mount if it was to be a permanent addition. a number plate mount, using modified fixings as i have will do the job, don't get me wrong, but just personal opinion, i would opt for something a little more permanent style, like a nudge bar.
if you want maximum distance down the road, then its probably still best to look at spot lights rather than a light bar.
