Thread: Uninspired by FGX

Bob Graziano is even on record as conceding this as far back as last year, so there shouldn't have been an expectation of "winning" that battle.

But, I think its an unfair comparison from a Ford enthusiasts perspective given the reasons why Falcon is what it is....

One of Falcons strengths is its engines. Their FI offerings are world class and unrivaled in their price points.

As we know though, given the changing world we're being forced into people are now buying less on outright performance and more on features, appointments and styling, even in the performance segment.

That focus has shifted progressively in line with falling sales of RWD sedans.

The irony in all of this is had the Coyote/Miami double been available in 2005 we might have seen Holden falling over first....

Is the FGX range the best Falcon ever relative to the others? IMO Yes.

Is FGX the best RWD Sedan ever produced in Australia...?

    That's a completely different question....
I didn't say it was the only premise. There are arguments that could be made that would put it right up the top when it comes to "best ever".

Bob is talking about content, I'm not fussed with that. I don't need power up windows. Content, like aesthetics can also be subjective. My only concern is the direction they took with the exterior.

Interesting the word "feminine", it implies smooth, curvy and attractive. This of very obvious in supercars such as McLaren, Ferrari, Porsche, Aston Martin, Lamborghini et. al.

Actually it is EXACTLY what marketing people love as it attracts attention. Why do you think a coke bottle is this shape?

Dont forget FG is only 6 years and 6 months old.

Upgrading from an FG1 to an FGX will be okay for some atleast they get things like the touch screen and a decent Nav if optioned. I must say the FGII Nav system is the best Ive ever used, leaves the Mercedes command shit for dead.

This car will sell regardless as Hertz and Avis will continue buying them, they are cheap ham and cheese cars for them.

As for it being the best ever Falcon, well it should be (aside from styling as that's a personal view).

The only disappointment for me is the fact I cant have one.

Makes you want to grab it... can't think of any other reason. Oh, yes, it also makes it easy to grab.

In all seriousness, those exotics are never referred to as feminine. Yes, they have proportion and nice curves but their shoulder lines are packed, which is why they're sometimes referred to as masculine.

The exterior fate was set before FGX mate, like it or not long nose "whale mouth" is the way forward for all Ford passenger cars....

Given the car basically designed itself (adopted front clip/rear detail) id suggest most of the $ went into engineering the changes not designing them.

The corporate look isnt what makes it ugly to mw, its the way its been incorporated.
fusion is the same basic dna but looks much better, mustang has same dna and looks better.

Id love to see if there was any diferent design sketches done.
someone on aff photoshopped a fgx with a recessed grill, that little change improved things markedly.

To my eye the visual "conflict" is caused by the glass house shape and retention of FG body backward of the A pillar.

Imo FG2 was the pinnacle of that design, to make the longer nose/whale mouth really work and look cohesive Falcon needed a glass house and hip line rethink which we know was no chance given the situation and budget.

And that's my gripe - a non global vehicle made to global although it will be culled because it's not global. Someone could have grown a set and designed it with Falcon elements.

Agree mate but it probably went like this: you want to spend money on a dead duck you do it our way and use it to introduce future DNA....

I seriously don't know what you expected?

If they did not work to the design DNA they probably wouldn't have gotten it signed off.

To me its still at a Falcon, theres Falcon key Falcon DNA present, things like the LED DRL's on XR giving the twin light effect and so on. Better still it uses some Jaguar influence too which has made it look more up market.
