    V Fact 2021 - Ther Wrap-up.

    https://www.whichcar.com.au/news/vfacts-december-2021

    2021 YTD

    Rank Model Sales
    1 Toyota HiLux 52,801
    2 Ford Ranger 50279
    3 Toyota RAV4 35,751
    4 Toyota Corolla 28,768
    5 Hyundai i30 25,575
    6 Isuzu D-Max 25,117
    7 Mazda CX-5 24,968
    8 Toyota Prado 21,299
    9 Mitsubishi Triton 19,232
    10 MG ZS 18,423

For me, there are 2 very distinct things this list shows.

    1. Twin Cab Utes are the new Falcon/Commodore. 5 of the top ten cars in the nation are these mid-size pick-ups. With Hilux the only one that sells any volume of 4x2 single cabs. Yes, they all offer them, but they don't sell many. Indeed Ranger 4x4 outsold Hilux 4x4 which must be pleasing for the accountants at FoA. The profitability of an XLT or higher is many times that of the council spec single cab 4x2. Also there is noted that Ranger over the last few months has outsold Hilux, which got a headstart earlier in the year.

    2. With the possible exception of the MG There is no "cheap" cars on that list. Corolla and I30 are often $30K+ CX5 are $35-50K Prado is $60K+ and twin cab Utes start at $45 and &0 and 80K is common, and that's before you open the ARB catalog. For me it would really make sense for a cheap and cheerful Sub $20K runabout like a Suzuki Swift or Mitsubishi Mirage to be a volume seller. But they aren't.

Ford Mustang numbers have really plummeted, haven't they? In some ways, this helps make them less common but it has also driven up their price in the used market.
She's getting a bit long in the tooth now so it's hardly surprising.

Ranger is doing really well, thankfully for Ford or they would be nowhere.

I don't really understand this obsession with Toyota here. They are good cars, of course, built well, etc but most aren't exactly inspirational vehicles or inexpensive

Good thread Elks and I like the spell errors human is human.

Stock stock is the hurdle for all Brands as we all know these last 2yrs and ahead for sometime.

At least Everest has kept up with its slow increase.
New model I hope can give it the boost it needs off the back of the new Ranger.

Really sad nothing else is on offering in the volume passenger sector for that why Toyota kill it - range range range.
Thats the fixation with the consumer - they have choices hence their constant figures year in year out.
It no matter some here think they are not the car they were fact is they are not that bad anyway, general public only care about getting to point A next to point B.
Cheap to run might I add and dealers galore.

Mustang stocks the last 2yrs haven't helped and the model at its end.
Transit has picked up some sales but overall nothing to get too excited but that Ranger has been a great product keeping the brand relevant in the market.
    Profitable yes.

Just amazing we see so many hatchbacks/small sedans on the road still and Ford used to have good numbers back in the day and now nothing.

    The Top 3 fords are

    Ranger
    Everest (Ranger Wagon)
    Transit _Of all things

Everything else combined makes up less than 10,000 units. And there are some good cars in there, Focus, Puma, Escape, and of course Mustang.

But compared to Toyota or even Mercedes, Ford Australia's product range is quite small

Toyota does what ford doesn't. They compete with themselves. Like if you want a small Hatch, there are 3, SUV there are 7, Ute there are only 2 but they are built in multiple configurations including 70 Series wagons.

So if a Rav4 is a fraction big, get a CHR if its too small get a Kluger or a Prado or even a Land cruiser, 70 or 300?

It makes for complex logistics no doubt, but then theyre selling 200,000 plus units

Good points, Maurie re Toyota. Their range, choice, and dealer network/customer experience is class-leading.

It's a bit odd how the Focus has fallen out of favour. My sister owns a new model and it's a very capable and well-appointed car.

You could say Toy is the maccas of the auto industry……

Focus Fiestas such good cars Fords strategies ruined any chance with them.
I agree especially the last 2 models have been very nice rides in that category but the mass’s have been scared to venture.
    Mondeo another.
Their best versions all too late and pricey.

Why is there so many corollas i20/30’s selling followed by over priced Golfs.
Despite the big Suv raid and shift in market.
