If EV's are the way of the future...

... then why are there so many new petrol stations under construction throughout Victoria?

That's just it, new petrol stations are capital intensive, which means the ROI is over the course of years. Not only that, the ongoing costs with site maintenance are high which means that this is hay for the future.

Still be plenty of people to prove gouge for many years to come. People are still scared of EVs. Plenty of misinformed people to exploit.

To a certain extent, but the EV narrative as being pushed by the green retards (and Labor by corollary) is even less sustainable than the renewables they have been peddling for years. The grid is on tenterhooks right now, let alone with even 20% of the car fleet is electric.

My thinking is that whoever is stumping up the capital knows this and is investing accordingly.

Not really. It's getting pushed by govts to secure fuel and for countries not to be dependant on regimes they may fall out of favour with (like Russia where we used to get 17% of our supplies from).

The Green narrative is just a smoke screen.

Grid is fine. My hot water system uses more power than my EVs. Moving to heat pumps, LED, etc will reduce load.

Your comments sound like old folks who uses to say in the 80's if everyone had air-conditioning, the grid would go belly up. We found a way to be more efficient as we moved to almost all houses having air-condition. Next step would be to ban central units and switch to split systems. Again, a central unit uses way more per day than an EV. Heck, my split system uses more than my EV.

With more solar, better understanding on how to shift load periods the grid will be just fine.

Take off the tin foil hat.

There is no foil hat, unless a battery the size of Tasmania is built, the current crop of renewable power technologies are next to useless. Anyone claiming that renewables as they exist and the amount of battery backup in existence and planning are able to replace baseload generating capacity are talking out of their arse.

At best, current tech renewables are a stop gap.

Govt will probably extend coal plants for a while. Yes, not enough renewables to turn off all the coal but they'll keep the profitable coal ones going and turn off the less profitable ones.

Fuel security is the game. As long it's local coal, they'll be happy
