    When they say market relevance I think what referring to is cars and more importantly brands of cars that are relatable to the supporters and are perceived to be obtainable in one form or another. The problem with the Merc's was the car they were modeled from (E63) was unobtainable to the majority. The problem with the Nissan was the brand and car wasn't of interest or desirable to the supporters. Scott Mc success managed to somewhat elevate the Volvo's desirability amongst supporters but still, it was a long shot.

    You just have to look at the Touring car masters to see relatable, obtainable model cars are a huge hit, even if the race going versions are purpose-built. I can literally only think of one or two model cars that will keep this series alive under the current format and that's a Camaro and maybe a Dodge HellCat. Ford vs Chev vs Dodge. Maybe Toyota as long as its a hero/halo model (Supra) They all don't have to be sold here from the factory the Mustang, just obtainable in one form or another even is that converted by specialty niche company.
