Claying is awesome and yields great results with every time Ive done it. I did It on my car and was astounded at the quality of finish. Panels noticeably smoother after and when hand is rubbed gently across its frictionless and makes no noise.

Now I'd definitely recommend doing in within the weekend when you have plenty of time to spare. When I clay I pretty much use 4 Steps.

Wash
Wash is pretty self explainable but just give the car a really good clean. use your regular car wash.

Clay Bar

Then the clay bar stage. This is easy so just have confidence ad take your time. Don't be to aggressive. Some small mistakes for beginners, as stupid as it is the clay is really easy to drop so be careful not to especially when doing vertical panels like doors. Also knead the clay often maybe say you want to fold it and half and knead maybe for a 20x20 cm patch. One thing I cant stress enough especially if paint is bad is kneading as it moves contaminants away from rubbing edge of clay. Also use the quick detailer to ensure the clay glides nicely across panel.

1.Squirt detailer 20x20 cm patch
2. With clay in your palm place on the panel and start working around the patch with small circular motion without to much pressure letting clay do the work.
3. If clay starts getting hard to move. Knead and spray more quick detailer on. Always make sure there is some on the panel.
4. Use micro-fibre cloths to buff excess quick detailer away.
5. Run hand across clayed section and you will feel it smoother and no noise as you drag your hand across.
6. Start again on patch right next slightly overlapping the edges of previous patch.
7. Complete the Car.

Polish

For this you will want a Buffer Pad and Micro-fibres, for micro-fibres I went to repco and got like 20 for NZ$25. This step is really easy just follow steps on the back of meguiars ultimate compound. Some tips would be to make sure you dont leave any polish around edges of bonnet etc between panels, it dries hard goes white and looks terrible. so make sure you remove it all. Also don't apply to much, and don't try and do too much of a panel at once as the ultimate compound just sitting of their with polish the paint. I learn't the hard way as I left it sitting on my roof for a while whilst I did the first part of the roof and by the time I got to the back and polished it out their was a nice bright red trial of where the polish had been sitting. This took ages to remove.

Wax

This step meguiars tech wax 2.0 provides great results. As above just follow instructions on the back and take your time and you will be safe. I can recommend that you will get far better results (personally) by using a random orbital buffer to polish the wax off once it has dried. I applied wax by hand and then used a random orbital buffer to remove it once it had dried. Its dry when you wipe you finger and it comes off i.e doesn't smear. a buffer isn't necessary though. And don't worry about damaging paint with random orbital as its not powerful enough to damage paint it will just stop. So if you take your time you will gain awesome results.

The above products are only recommendations due to what I use, use products which you are happy with and aslong as they are used as directed they will give good results. As Force 6 posted above duragloss is another great brand their wax last longer than the meguiars stuff which by the sounds of things is better in your case. But I prefer the look of meguiar carnauba wax.

Below are some photos of one I did for a mate. He was very happy as the paint looked faded (me noticing) and then when he got it back couldn't believe how great it looked. I did it all for free because he let me drive it around for the weekend which was absolutely awesome!

Take your time and GL
