Ah yes that is true however you DID make the broad sweeping statement:

"the T3 was the first car Ford (FTE) built in over 30 years that went 14 secs from factory. That's why I don't believe any of the "anniversary" GTs were deserving of the badge."

I'm merely pointing out there's much more to a performance sedan that 1/4 mile times..! :-)

And I absolutely agree with you.

My replies to questions directed to me were however aimed at the 1/4 mile time only.

If you want even broader comment from me ... I don't (never did, even when a teenager) believe any of the muscle car era Falcon GTs deserved the badge either. GTs were 2 door cars by definition and good marketing by Ford saw the badge accepted on a 4 door car - good for them. Now HOs? ... there's another kettle of fish ... that badge really meant something ... it was something you couldn't simply option from the dealer on your Falcon 500 or Fairmont.

An XA/XB GT hardtop is the "purists'" GT - I'd have one of those in a wink. Pity the HO4 was canned and thank DOG we have a few RPOs about today to remind us what could have been the "real" GT in the Falcon range ... an absolute world class GT car in it's day.

No prize for guessing what car they were referring to ... OWN THE ROAD ...

The manual ET GT could do high 14's (14.97) but the auto was almost a full second slower at 15.9 ish.
As a comparision the XA GT (non RPO) was good for 15.8 for the 400m dash. The GTSR factory stroker however was faster claimed to do 14.3 from memory. I think that was where alot of the angst lay with Ford V8 fans at the time. Personally I would rather a car that was associated with Dark Vader, than associated with a big banana. Come to think of it that's a pretty big call coming from someone with a yellow GT..lol.

The quickest B-series GT did a 13.6 in the hands of motor mag. Admittedly it had 7000km on the odo so I'm not sure if that counts, being run-in and all.

The quickest 5.4 was 13.3 off memory. Or was it 13.2? That was a GT-E.

Wars have been started over less inflammatory comments than that Youssef!!!

You are correct though, from memory BA XR8 went 13.9 in the hands of Motor too.

Heheheh ... I was going to say the same. But after I thought for a minute I concluded "Hey, he's only sprukin' about B Series and really, ... who cares?" LOL.

    Ouch!

BA Mk2 XR8 6 speed manual 13.99 (MOTOR), but figures of 14.2 to 14.4 where more common for the BOSS 260.
Fastest I have heard the journo's run a B series BOSS 290 was 13.8 with 14 flat being more common. A FG 315kW BOSS powered GTE in NZ ran a 13.4 from memory. The issue with the B series boss V8 powered cars was also getting them to launch well which the press had difficulty with. The engine had such a short power and torque band that if you missed the window it turned a potenial 13 into a 14 second pass. The T3 was generally considered slightly faster, more consistently. It lacked the Boss engine's surge between 3200 and 4500 rpm but had a much broader, usable spread of available torque to play with.

Anyway back onto the EL GT before someone starts a fight! :-)

Jeff you delicate petal. I wasn't sprukin at all, just highlighting the improvements.

Edit: Colville, that's the time I was thinking about (13.4).
Motor tested a Rapid BF 290 in 2006 and got 13.6.
Also, at time release the BA Mk2 with 6sp manual was tested, that was 13.7.

Not sure why anyone would think that would be my intention, and if anyone does think that then they don't know me too well.

No worries Youssef, you're probably up with this facts much more than I. I have the magazines down stairs, but dont have the time (or patience) to go look!

P.S No wonder that BF290 went so fast, it was a Rapid coloured one ;-).
