It’s been a good year for the Blue Oval’s US staff, in contrast to local workers.

Ford will pay a $6200 bonus to each of its 41,600 US workers after earning $8.8 billion in pre-tax profit last year, the company says.

However, the goodwill doesn't extend to the maker's Australian division, which contributed to a $US83 million black hole during 2011, accounts released late last week show.

The full-year result is $463 million up on the same time last year, while the Asia-Pacific-Africa result is almost $100 million down on the $23 million profit it made a year ago.
