    Cruise control ?.

Ok guy’s, today was the 1’st day that I have used the cruise control on the Territory, and I noticed that it dropped fairly significantly while going up a slight long incline, I had it set at 113 and it dropped right down to 103 until it changed down a peg and cruised back up to 113, I thought that cruise held the speed with in a few k’s of the set limit, I didn’t expect it to drop 10 k and then kick it down a gear ?.

It also did it when I had it set on 103 and then once again on a hill, it dropped back slowly until 94 then changed gear and went back up.

My AU's cruise is nothing like this and changes gear and holds the set speed quite well, is this just a different function on the newer car’s, i.e. Territory or could there be something wrong with the cruise control ?.

Mine does the same thing and it annoys the shit out of me. It also takes forever to get up to the set speed on a long, flat road.

Galaxy, I just did a run to Busselton today - about 2 hours south of perth in th GT. Cruise set most of the way and held within 1 or 2 kays. Mind you, its a pretty flat run. I would be pissed with that amount of drop in speed...

My old EL Fairmont Ghia used to do that, you'd set cruise to 110km/h, go up a hill on the Calder freeway and it'd fall back to 100km/h, then smash back to 2nd gear and go WOT to pick up the 10km/h it dropped off and do it again all the way up the hill, then on the way down it'd happily do 125km/h.

I'd be a bit suspect on a recent car doing this, usually cruise control holds it within 1-2km/h up hills, might be worth asking Ford to see if they know about the issue, may have ECU firmware update to fix this problem.

Thank’s for the replies people, on a flat normal road it is fine, hold’s speed quite well and with in a few k’s if there is a slight incline but only of small distance it still holds ok, I only noticed it on the Calder Hwy traveling from Bendigo to Melb, just after the Castlemaine turn of there is a fairly long step incline, I had the cruise set at 113, and then by mid way up the incline I noticed speed had dropped to 108, then by the time I approached the end of the incline it was down to 103 and by this time it dropped back a peg and cruised back up to the normal 113, it didn’t do WOT or anything like that, it seemed as though the cruise was doing it’s normal thing to get back up to the selected speed by slowly getting there in the lower gear, but for it to drop that far from the selected set speed until it went back up is what has me confused.

As I had just passed a car at the start of the incline (dual lane HWY) and didn’t use any power to do so, just the cruise, then I noticed him coming back at me and passing me towards the top of the incline, that is where it dropped the 10 k, then I had to pass him again, once back up to 113, it was quite annoying.

There was another rather step incline that was a long distance so I thought I would see if it did it again, and yes it dropped back but this time grabbed a gear a little earlier.

So is this really normal for cruise on newer car’s these days, as my AU is nothing like this.

Normal!! I always wondered if it was something to do with the drive by wire setups these later cars have?

I found both my fg's to be very stable with cruise on. I'd assume the terri's use the same system?
