Installing ipod module in FG
i'm expecting my ipod module to arrive any day now and am looking to install it myself and get it activated by my local dealer. there is a very good doco on AFF to guide me through removal of centre console, but it doesn't actually tell me where the ipod loom plugs in. is there a plug just sitting in there somewhere, or am i going to have to pull the icc apart as well? hopefully there is a plug readily accessable. anyone been down this path before?
cheers
Rob

Hey Rob,
My ute came with the bluetooth and ipod already installed so i cant help there. But i did fit up an ASL reverse camera kit and had to remove the ICC and pull apart the centre console to run the wires.
The hardest part is the top lid of the ICC which you sort of have to try and lift and squeeze at the same time. Dont be too concerned about removing the ICC, just disconnect the Battery and you will be fine. The loom that i had to install for the reverse camera plugged into the top of the ICC, there were also a couple more connections in there, so im guessing this could be for the Ipod module etc.
Cheers,
Tim

The black module that sits loosely behind the ICC is the bluetooth unit, I don't think it affects the iPod integration. The only connections to the ICC from the car (apart from the main multi pin connection that the ICC slides into) are the bluetooth module at the top (the module itself sits in the ICC itself anyway) and the two other connectors that plug into the top of the ICC, plus the aerial connector below the ICC behind the tissue box holder. If I were to guess, I'd say that the AIM harness which connects to the module in the centre console would either go to the top of the ICC (probably not) or the fuse panel. I know that the BF series aux connections went to the fuse panel.

i guess i'll figure it out when i pull it apart. the loom in the pic didn't look long enough to go to the fuse panel. might find something in the workshop manual.

just to update, and hope maybe some more pics might appear or some more advice, when i pulled the console out, there was a spare plug which the ipod loom fitted. in the last pic on this page, you can just see some wiring below the icc part in front of the power supply/cig lighter. the loom didn't look long enough to go anywhere else and when looking at a diagram of the loom fitted in the workshop manual, it looks like thats about the area where it plugs in.
got humpty all back together again and rang my local dealer and bribed him with a carton of coopers. he said he could fit me in, so down i went, only to have them plug the laptop in and have it come up with 'check 6 pin plug'. they didn't have time to investigate further, so now i'm wondering if its somewhere i've gone wrong. i did just take a guess that the plug i used was the correct one, because it just happened to be there, but maybe it does plug in elsewhere.
anyway, its sort of back to square 1. luckily the centre console isn't too difficult to remove. any more advice or pics would be very welcome, esp if someone with tech pack fitted has some pics with the console out. i know its a long shot.
cheers
Rob

Hi Rob,
That loom near the 12v outlet in my pic was plugged into my engine start button. It looks like a hand made wiring loom just wrapped in electrical tape.

sorry, i don't mean the little one you can see hanging out right next to the 12v bit but if you go straight back from the 12v connection, in the darkness under where the icc would be, you can just see a bit of a reasonably large loom. there was a large white plug, similar to the grey plugs at the top of the icc, taped up there, and i just assumed it was the plug to use, as there was nothing else in the area. looking at your pics with the icc removed, there are no plugs there either and the loom i was given for the ipod isn't long enough to reach the top of the icc, and the plugs up there are diffferent anyway.

Looks like you need to take the side panel off? Or doesn't it reach that far?
