This is exactly where I would be coming from too.

Obviously I have been pretty outspoken about mustang and what it means to me. I won't shy away from that so part of the article has to address that which is also foreign to a wider audience.

In the past we have looked at ford options from the perspective of Falcon going. While there is a bit of that happening here, it can't be as strong a feature as say it was with Mondeo.

I have to be honest here and say, I suspect my biggest issue will be the 2018 model because thinking back to the stuff I wasn't over with, it addresses nearly every single aspect.

It's only the double eyebrow interior that remains and maybe the park brake on the wrong side.

What is it like to like to live with.

For our market right here, I think thats a really good and strong position to have.

As someone who isn't invested in the mystique of Mustang, it has to sell itself in a practical way.

In the evolution I feel needs to occur, I am not protective of heritage in the same way as a mustang enthusiast might be.

This perhaps is the perfect time for such a review because what we have had is more a retro stang that pulls at the heart strings of people who do own classics. The perfect tribute perhaps.

    Have those sales gone now?

Are we now looking at a harder market that's more judgemental such as myself?
History is a statement, the future is a question.

    yes yep and yes Ian.
I agree on this type of test base's and like you I suspect with others we are not close to Pony.
I have admired it over some years, a specific model or one that caught my eye but I've also looked at it as a typical over rated yank mobile.
Let me be kinder, I suppose it is one of the better looking amercan 2doors vehicles, a '69 fast back for eg, Moffs Boss versions another but others were like yuk and that old leaf sprung rear end was way past its use by date.
I'll also say from the Broady closure announcement and obviously our Falcon finished I disliked Pony even more feeling it was the baby chosen to save instead of ours, I'm sure some may have thought similar.
Roll on since, a decent rear end, 2018version is getting better.
I'll be interested how it stacks up day to day usage, internal moans and groans, vision from the drivers seat incl parking, its handling, power and its character. Not fussed about the gadgets etc, hey I own a old FG XSprint.

We will definitely look at all that stuff M.

And to that I think we need to have a market awareness.

It is now an outgoing model, a slow outgoing model but one that has some baggage attached thanks to the safety rating.

I can't see how I can leave that out and at this stage I think i will do a video to cover it because frankly writing doesn't do the subject justice.

So from a market perspective why would I want to buy this car now?

I think that's a legitmate question where the article needs to have a conclusion on this aspect because it's relevant to the market situation the MY 17 faces.

Then as you allude to mate, our specific baggage as Falcon consumers.

Yeah I can see it, we are in that space to explore what does Ford offers us going forward.

I mean we talk about it a lot so for sure i think we go there.

Dynamics right through to long stints behind the wheel.

We got caught out with digital speedo with mondeo and its cruise was just weird so this time I will see if I can find a downloadable owners manual and brush up on that side of proceedings.

We will do economy, quality and so on but I agree with you both. For me it's what is a mustang like to live with day to day as well as being able to service the role of a grand tourer as we know them.

    But ian
basically any model when its released is a outgoing model, as there is always the next gen just around the corner
I don't think you can look at it as a outgoing model
It is sill the current model in our market and will be for quite some time

Well again i think there is another reality here. While yes the moment one model launches its starting its death cycle, this situation has revealed publically a vastly different car. Much more changed than I would have thought.

Engine and auto transmission are big deals especially if you were an auto buyer. That's now market knowledge that cant be ignored.

Do I wait or do I buy now are legitimate questions now and need to factor in things like waiting periods and such.

Making it more mustang brand focus removes model specifics.

Before the safety rating and announcement of the 2018 model paying up to $70k for a Mustang GT seemed like a feasible consideration. Not now IMO. If I was happy to have the current model (which I still like) I would be looking for a low mileage used example, or a pay near new prices for a modified (upgraded) version. The idea of ordering new now without the benefit of instant gratification (delivered without waiting) on what seems to be a much lessor car than the 18 model is highly unlikely.

Manufactures and dealers have this problem all the time when a new model is announced which makes the current version obsolete. I suspect what typically sways a consumer into purchasing the current model is the prospect of instant gratification (and a good deal helps seal the deal). Ford Dealers don't really have this option with Mustang unless they are carrying stock. That there, IMO is the deal breaking moment.

most cars are released in europe or usa or asia before coming here, but usually only 6 months
if what norm and others are saying the Mustang is 12 months later, that is unacceptable
