Going back to NRL/SOO, I used to watch it religiously, back in the good ol days, I hardly watch a game through the season nowadays, the rule changes, the pathetic no contest scrums designed to enhance more open play etcetc.....
Its lost the plot.

seeing as how you mentioned it, i fail to see the point of scrums in league. watching the australia play england the other night, there is a point to a scrum in union, but it just looks pointless in league.

Agree - it is pointless uncontested.
They did this to reduce srummage penalties slowing down the game.
They should re introduce it - but stipulate better suitable rulings so as it can be contested, play roll on.
A contested scrum was great to watch, seeing a win against the feed etc.
The scrum in Union is one of the best parts of that game - mind you rule changes elsewhere have turned the once open football into penalty shootouts, not on this topic.

The usual happened, Thurston is back Slater Back.
Countless changes that had to be made for your mob.
A good and proper test for this good young nsw team, I'd far prefer qld having most and all their best on the park.
Typical this game is make or break.
I keep wondering what kind of a set up this SOO really is by the nrl ? its such a cash cow.
Anyway, I'll still be surprised nsw wins, I expect qld win and win the next back to normal stations for 2017.
IMO 2018 will be the big changer for both squads onwards, it will be anyones series on, the stranglehold dies with age retirements.

Yes, Maurie, a couple of big names back in which should lift the whole side but every era must come to an end eventually. Parker never got the accolades of many of the other players but he left a seriously big hole in the middle.

I reckon NSW might get this series with 3rd game being dead rubber. QLD are a proud side though so the first game would have hurt and hopefully they'll put in a good effort tomorrow night.
